It's a lot of paperwork. My friend did it, and she said she had to get proof of her relative's Japanese citizenship like Koseki, birth certificate, marriage certificate, proof of residence etc. And you have to turn in your parents and your paperwork for the above so definitely leave enough time to get that all together. I think my friend consulted a lawyer so you can get legal help with that.
