CK Cold Storage is looking for a well experienced and qualified individual to be recruited as follows:

Position: Abattoir and Feedlot Operations Manager

Location: Blantyre

Reporting to: The Managing Director

Overall role:

Ensure profitable operation of the abattoir and feedlot to optimize return on investment.

Key Responsibilities:
• * Prepare both short range and long-range feedlot plans and review them from time to time in line with corporate goals and objectives
• Supervise feedlot workers and conduct annual appraisal in consultation with the Group Human Resource Manager.
• Manage efficiently allocated material and financial resources
• Ensure all health and safety standards are adhered to and proper housekeeping
• Manage the feedlot and appropriate safety standards and relations with employees, suppliers, key stakeholders and customers
• Prepare operational budget and capital expenditure
• Ensure all company assets are secured and accounted for at all limes.
• Conduct weekly, monthly and annual reports for management review and consideration.
• Work closely with local veterinarian in treatment of animals and other vet related issues.
• Conduct periodic sample weight analysis of the herd
• Develop and enforce health, environment and safety and sanitation standards in alignment with respective government regulations.
• Recommend implementation measures for production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and efficiency
• Put in place stock control management systems
• Provide proposals for whole slaughterhouse value chain including; animal supply, animal handling, processing, storage, meat distribution up to the consumers
• Establish work schedules, assignments, job descriptions, production sequences (shift work) of employees to meet production goals and targets
• Recommend development of naw products and production processes in liaison with the Production/abattoir Manager
• Provide proposals on solid waste management, waste water and blood.
• Prepare guidelines for use of all machineries and equipment including, but not limited to knife, air-knife, saws and other hand-tools
• Comply with all Health Department standards
• Ensure ante and post mortem inspections are done for all slaughters
• Organise and manage transport for cattle and finished products.
• Prepare CAPEX and operations estimate budget line.

Requirements:

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in livestock management, a Master’s degree in commercial related field from a recognized institution of high learning with at least 10 years of work experience in an abattoir and or feedlot environment.
