Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Piping Designer on a fixed term contract basis, with experience in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or similar sector of the industry to provide support to our Client in the execution of a project in Vilanculos, Province of Inhambane.

Job Objective:
• Technical Design Ability - Under supervision completes technical design work using company and client design methods, standards and data in line with Project requirements. Provision of support to designers.
• Technical Expertise - Possesses proficient levels of technical expertise required to do the job, however continuously work towards improving and updating technical abilities. Will personally seek out opportunities to develop technical knowledge base.
• Cross Discipline Project and Team Interaction - Appreciation of project set up and team structure across disciplines. Under guidance working with other discipline designers.
• Understanding and meeting schedule and schedule dependencies - Awareness of personal targets for deliverable production and deliverable schedule.
• Commercial Awareness and Customer Focus - Under direction develops the engineering requirement.
• Interpretation of Engineering Requirements - Under direction develops the engineering requirement.
• Liaise between head office and construction contractor with regards to any technical queries.
• Assist construction contractor with interpretation of isometrics.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
• Should have a working experience and knowledge base of typical Petrochemical or Mining plants and be able to use this knowledge to locate Equipment, civil structures and infrastructure.
• Must be able to read and interpret all forms of Process flow diagrams.
• Should have a working knowledge of the function and workings of all categories of process equipment and bulk items as well as instrumentation used for transporting and controlling the process
• Should be familiar with Piping Specifications, Pipe Support specifications and Piping Design philosophies.
• Must be familiar with the related and referenced national and international geometrical standards forming part of Piping Material Specifications.
• Needs a basic knowledge of Pipe Stressing to be able to assist the Pipe Stress Engineer in ensuring a suitably, flexible, robust and supported design.
• Needs to be capable of reading and interpreting isometrics with regard to perspective.
• Should be able to develop a plot plan within the constraints and parameters defined by other disciplines.
• Should be able to establish the requirements for a 3D Piping Design as laid out by the Process and Project Departments.
• Shall be able to develop a cost effective, technically acceptable 3D Piping layout with emphasis on safety constructability and maintainability.

Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications:
• N3 or Matric

Knowledge, skills and experience:
• Minimum 5 Years experience
• Microstation CAD Software Package Version J or later
