About the role

Reporting to the General Manager Balama Graphite Operation, a Production Manager opportunity exists at Balama on a FIFO basis. The role will drive operational excellence within the Balama team with overall accountability for Mining, Processing & Maintenance activities.

Key role responsibilities include:
• Oversee plant operations to ensure that the agreed production plans, product quality and cost targets are met;
• Lead strategy development to ensure the achievement of short and long-term objectives;
• Provide strategic direction and effective management of the Production team, comprising of the Mining, Processing and Maintenance functions;
• Ensure that the necessary procedures are in place to maximise production efficiency and optimise plant and equipment performance;
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives for plant optimisation, increased workforce productivity and safety performance;
• Ensure that key process controls, operating systems, and plant performance analysis programs are in place to achieve the most efficient and cost-effective operation of the Balama asset;
• Oversee an effective product QA/QC program, ensuring that best practice processes are in place to maximise recoveries;
• Lead the annual operating and capital budgeting process for the Production function;
• Drive a high performance culture through effective leadership, people management, accountability, goal setting, and training & development programs;
• Continue to drive the Company’s high standards with respect to Sustainability performance across Health & Safety, Environment, People & Culture, Community & Stakeholder Engagement and Compliance & Governance;
• Mentor and develop the next generation of leaders within our diverse workforce.

Desirable skills and experience include:
• Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or significant frontline leadership experience within the resources industry;
• Experience in a similar role, including a demonstrated ability to lead a large, diverse & high performing team;
• Strong technical knowledge of mineral processing, plant maintenance and/or mining;
• Excellent planning, budgeting, project management, leadership and communication skills;
• Previous experience working within Africa would be highly regarded, and a high degree of cultural sensitivity is essential;
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing continuous improvement and optimisation initiatives in a demanding and fast paced environment;
• Proven organisational skills and ability to prioritise multiple tasks and competing deadlines;
• Proactiveness and proven capacity to think conceptually and make assertive decisions;
• Strong computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and Pronto (desirable).
