Position Summary

The Systems Administrator, reporting to the Director of Technical Services, is responsible for enterprise information technology (IT) network systems and infrastructure. The Systems Administrator maintains and services all university servers and systems. They patch and upgrade servers and systems as necessary to maintain operational readiness. The System Administrator promotes technology that will enhance the security and reliability of IT services and works with university personnel to integrate IT security into business processes.

Position Responsibilities

The tasks and responsibilities of the Systems Administrator include, but are not limited to:

Enterprise Systems and Infrastructure
• Hardware support and replacement cycles for all servers and enterprise equipment
• Operating system support for all administrative systems
• Assist the Network Admin in support of wired and wireless infrastructure
• Maintain hardware and software for all campuses
• Be available for occasional off-hour emergency support for infrastructure as needed

Enterprise Servers
• Administration of Google Apps/GMail services.
• Manage SSL & Security Certificates for all administrative systems
• Administration and support of university VPN clients (Currently Fortinet)
• Support authentication for all university systems including email, wireless, and VPN

Specific Experience in:
• VMware certification is strongly preferred. The university hosts 90+ servers on 6 VMware hosts. The Systems Admin is the university's VMWare administrator and is responsible for OS patching, updating, security, and hardware refresh for all hosts and guests.
• SAN storage system s. University currently uses a com bi nation of Nimble, HP, and AWS. The Systems Admin is responsible for evaluating storage use, making recommendations, and planning for storage systems appropriate to the university's needs.
• Enterprise Backup Systems. Currently, the university uses Veeam for VMware and file system backups, both to disk and offsite to AWS. This position is responsible for backups/restores, and evaluating and improving our current practices.
• Active Directory. AD needs to be evaluated and, working with the rest of IT, a plan for clean-up and maintenance needs to be implemented.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A Bachelor's degree or 8+ years of experience in Systems and Networking positions is required. A work history with increasing responsibility in managing enterprise information technology systems, services, and infrastructure is desired. Experience in higher education is strongly preferred.

This individual is a creative, service-oriented administrator with strong analytical skills, who has a clear understanding of higher education and who has a dynamic vision of the role that information technology plays among University constituent groups. The ability to balance a complex set of priorities and issues is critical. Prior technical work experience supporting network and systems administration, risk management, security, support services, and oversight of large information projects is strongly preferred.

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in teams are essential.

Youth Clearances are required for positions with direct contact with children and essential personnel positions. Employees working with or around minor age children are required to complete the youth clearance process which includes the following four child protection clearances:

1) Affidavit;

2) FBI Criminal Record Check;

3) Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance and;

4) Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check.

In accordance with state laws, Act 73 of 2007, Act 153 of 2014, Act 168 (relating to the Child Protective Services Law), school employees of Eastern University who will have "direct contact with children" must complete the background check process prior to employment. Results must be submitted within ten days of receipt.
