Choppies Zimbabwe is looking for an experienced retail buyer to procure a variety of retail products for the Choppies retail outlets. The position will be based in Bulawayo.

As the Chief Buyer, you will be responsible for conducting market research, sourcing products, and negotiating contracts with suppliers. You will also be responsible for logistical management and inventory control.

To ensure success as a retailer buyer, you should have excellent research and negotiation skills. An outstanding retail buyer has an exceptional understanding of consumer trends and is able to source the best quality products within the allocated budget.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Analyze market trends and apply this knowledge to make insightful buying decisions.
• Establish and maintain contact with suppliers and work with key account managers.
• Interview suppliers and negotiate prices, discounts, credit terms and transportation arrangements.
• Negotiating trading terms and advertising spending.
• New listing with extensive knowledge of SLA agreements and compliances.
• Yearly as well as monthly promotional planning with suppliers and arranging things to facilitate the same such as Preparation of flyers etc.
• Oversee distribution of merchandise to outlets and maintain adequate stock levels.
• Pricing and Right Pricing Strategies.
• Fix Product range and merchandising standards in shops.
• Reporting – Stock, Turnover, profit, store compliances, promotions.
• Developing an effective and accurate system for monitoring purchase orders.
• Working within the management team to ensure that all deliveries satisfy the assigned orders and report back any back ordered or missing products.
• Update inventory and ensure that stock levels are kept at appropriate levels.
• Assess the quality of stock received and escalate any discrepancies to suppliers and management.
• Provide leadership, coordination, and coaching to the team, ensuring they are trained to achieve operational and financial goals.
• Participate during the process of Preparation of Sales Budget, GP Budget and Achieve the same.
• Working with the category team to ensure store activation.
• Management Reporting.
• Assuring Return on Inventory.

Qualifications and Experience
• A minimum of 7 years experience in the position of Chief Buyer.
• Experience in a Retail/FMCG environment will be an advantage.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field,
• An MBA will be an added advantage.
• Excellent Computer Skills (Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point).
• Effective communication skills both written and verbal
