Job Overview:

The IVF counsellor will provide expert emotional, psychological, and educational support to individuals and couples undergoing in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and other fertility treatments. The counsellor will play a vital role in assisting patients to navigate the complexities of fertility treatments, offering support through the decision-making process, treatment phase, and potential outcomes. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the psychological impacts of infertility, exhibit empathy, maintain confidentiality, and commit to delivering patient-centred care.

Key Responsibilities:
• Patient Counselling: Conduct one-on-one and group counselling sessions for patients and their partners, focusing on the emotional and psychological aspects of undergoing fertility treatments.
• Education and Information: Provide detailed explanations of fertility treatments, procedures, potential risks, and success rates to help patients make informed decisions.
• Support Group Facilitation: Organise and facilitate support groups for individuals and couples undergoing fertility treatments to share experiences and coping strategies.
• Emotional Support: Offer continuous emotional support and guidance throughout the treatment process, including coping with stress, managing expectations, and dealing with unsuccessful treatment outcomes.
• Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and intervention in crisis situations, including addressing acute emotional distress or psychological issues arising from treatment.
• Ethical Guidance: Assist patients in understanding the ethical considerations and implications of fertility treatments, including donor eggs and sperm, surrogacy, and embryo donation.
• Collaboration with Medical Staff: Work closely with fertility specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
• Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest research, trends, and practices in fertility counselling to provide the best support and care to patients.

Qualifications:
• A Master’s degree in counselling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
• Certification or specialised training in fertility counselling or reproductive health is highly preferred.
• Valid licencing as a professional counsellor or equivalent in the jurisdiction of practice.

Required Skills and Attributes:
• Strong knowledge of the psychological effects of infertility and a deep understanding of the IVF treatment process.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex information empathetically and clearly.
• High level of emotional intelligence and the ability to support clients through emotionally challenging situations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in sensitive situations.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide guidance on ethical dilemmas related to fertility treatments.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of the latest developments in fertility counselling.

Work Environment:
