Summary of Duties:

The Senior Director of Development 2 for the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine provides leadership to and management of the planning, execution, and evaluation of fundraising and development related activities. This will include, but is not limited to, major gift fundraising and actively managing (including personal solicitations) a diversified portfolio of financial resources that can support the medical education program. This Senior Director of Development will be responsible for designing and implementing a fund raising approach that will support the respective missions of the college. These areas include building a strong scholarship program, partnering with the clinical affiliates to design community partner and grateful patient programs, anticipate an alumni fund as the medical students graduate, and secure support for research and endowed chair/director positions.

The Senior Director of Development 2 is responsible for developing, implementing and administering the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine’s development efforts to support an annual fundraising operation. Responsibilities include developing methods to accomplish fundraising goals, planning and conducting public contact programs designed to promote the public’s understanding of a unit’s activities and research with the aim of cultivating donors and raising money, and leading assigned development staff in philanthropic activities. These efforts may include, but are not limited to annual giving, major gift development, corporate and foundation relations, and planned gift identification and advancement. The Senior Director of Development 2 has a personal fundraising responsibility between $1,500,000 – $2,500,000+. This position works collaboratively with the Washington State University Foundation development team in support of the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine and university strategic development goals.

The incumbent may be based at any Campus in WA State such as Spokane (preferred), Tri-Cities, Vancouver, Seattle, Everett or Pullman.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree and seven (7) years of progressively responsible full-time professional fundraising or consultative sales experience within a complex organization, which includes at least three (3) years as a unit director or equivalent leadership experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.

Consultative sales are defined as the sale of real estate, industrial equipment, vehicles, custom services, or bulk commodities, which include long term relationships between salespeople and clients. Consultative sales positions are typically compensated on a commission basis and have the authority to negotiate the terms and conditions of individual sales with customers.

Additional Requirements:
• Experience raising funds in support of a school of medicine or closely related experience.
• Experience demonstrating strong interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining internal and external relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to cultivate, develop and steward client/donor relationships
• Understanding of proposal development and writing, fundraising and/or client development principles and techniques; project management skills; and relevant event planning/management.
• Demonstrated success in proposal writing and submission.
• Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license at time of hire. Evening and weekend work required.
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience raising funds that support student access to medical school.
• Fundraising experience closing major gifts of $500,000 and above.
• Proven experience motivating and managing individuals and teams for maximum performance.
• Prior experience working with academic and administration leadership.
• Evidence of ability to plan and execute a fundraising project from conception to realization.
• Advanced degree in a related field (i.e. education, public relations, law, etc.)
