African Parks (AP) is a not-for-profit organization that secures a mandate to conserve through Public-Private Partnerships with Governments and communities for the rehabilitation and long-term management of protected areas in Africa, and here in Malawi, AP has secured this mandate for the management of Majete Wildlife Reserve, Liwonde National Park and Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve.

An opportunity has arisen for the post of Environmental Education Assistant (EEA) tenable at Majete Wildlife Reserve in Chikwawa.

The Environmental Education Assistant will directly report to the Community Extension Manager and will be responsible for assisting with the management of the Environmental Education Centre and other

environmental issues and incidents within the Majete Wildlife Reserve. The incumbent will assist with

educating and raising awareness of learners from schools and higher learning institutions as well as all

Park visitors as may be required about Wildlife issues in the Park.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

Assisting in the development of communication, education and awareness materials related to

environmental & wildlife management programs and deliver park visitor awareness presentations;

Conducting park visitor environmental education and awareness sessions in wildlife management,

i.e. wildlife in general and wildlife ecology, management issues such as wild fire, waste management, invasive alien species, pollution etc;

Maintaining an inventory of all learning materials for use at the learning facility;

Management of a library for the Environmental Education Centre;

Engage with park residents in maintaining general sanitation around homesteads, and waste

management;

Taking bookings and addressing environmental questions and concerns from park visitors.

Special projects and duties as assigned by management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Proven ability to conduct training in a classroom set-up; a teaching background is essential;

Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and field crews; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Some computer and word processing skills, including some proficiency in MS Excel in order to

manage data spreadsheets;

Class C1 drivingLicense is a must

Demonstrable organizational skills in order to manage multiple work assignments with attention

to detail;

Strong tour guiding skills with the proven ability to work independently.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Diploma in Natural Resources Management/ Community Developmentor any related field from a recognized Institution

A Degree in the above fields and / or more than 3years working experience in a similar position

will be an added advantage.
