Role and Responsibilities

The Counselor acts as a representative of treatment staff and engages clients in treatment and the recovery process. The Counselor is also responsible for coordination of aftercare referrals and resources, family treatment and engagement
• Assumes primary responsibility for assigned client caseload.
• Provides individual/group therapy for clients seeking mental health and/or substance use treatment and documents the process in the client record.
• Facilitates evidence-based interventions to clients in individual, group and family sessions.
• Ensures that all documentation regarding client care, treatment, and incidents is done in a clear, concise, professional, and timely manor.
• Acts as liaison between referral sources and clients.
• Conducts family interview and provides for referral to appropriate resources.
• Provides crisis intervention to clients as needed.
• Plans aftercare for assigned clients to include case management.
• Acts as liaison with insurance carriers as requested and is involved with EAP referral activities.
• Completes Bio-Psychosocials, Treatment Plans, integrated summaries and discharge summaries within specified timelines as per policy. Conducts weekly treatment plan reviews and update treatment plans.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
• Master’s degree in Social Work or Mental Health; Completion of licensure in one of the following; LSW/LISW/LPC/LPCC
• Demonstration of group facilitation skills, knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and treatments.
• An understanding of the 12-step recovery process preferred.

Certification
• Handle with Care training and Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire or within 30 days of hire.

Work Experience
• At least one year of experience in a mental/behavioral health and/or Recovery Center preferred.

Other Requirements
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Teamwork, flexibility needed to fulfill job responsibilities, adapting to changes in work environment and accepting supervisory feedback.
• Adherence to all relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines affecting the work environment, as well as maintenance of required competencies and communications skills
