Ambatovy Joint Venture operation in Madagascar, is recruiting an experienced Maintenance Services Manager who will be required to provide leadership for multi-disciplinary activities like health and safety initiatives, capital and operating budget management and contractor management.

The Role
This position reports to the Asset Management Director, Maintenance Services Manager is responsible for the Central shops and Mobile Maintenance Services. The mission for Maintenance Services is to provide timely support and services to the Operations and Maintenance groups for Equipment Repair and Overhaul, Metalworking and Mobile Maintenance Services. The Maintenance Services Manager works closely with the Plant Manager to support plant maintenance activities to minimize plant unavailability. He/she is responsible for maintenance HSE, development of local employees and fosters a collaborative work environment. He/she controls costs related to manpower, material, equipment and tools.

Responsibilities
• The Maintenance Services Manager will champion the Maintenance Services for Ambatovy ensuring that a robust program is implemented and functioning properly.
• The Maintenance Services Manager is a key position on site as maintenance costs are a key driver for the business.
• The Manager must be able to direct and supply cost effective maintenance services at the highest efficiency possible. In order to do this, strategies must be implemented to train National employees for required in house skills while choosing outsourced skills as appropriate and as needed.
• The Manager will work closely with the Plant Maintenance Managers to provide effective use of resources to perform the works on site.
• Contractor management and effective workflow processes will be a critical component of maintenance costs.
• The Maintenance Services Manager is responsible overall for cost effective services through shops and mobile equipment.
• Understand the HSEQ risks relevant to his area of responsibility and ensure the use of the Ambatovy risk framework for their management.
• Provide leadership to the site in providing Maintenance services while respecting health and safety procedures and processes.
• Develop strategies to increase mobile equipment availability and to support plant maintenance activities.
• Review the Shops process flow efficiency and support any changes to reduce rework and to optimize work quality.
• Review key KPIs regularly and take action when required.
• Continuously review training needs in the context of a functioning competency grid and work with HR in developing skills in house.
• Since maintenance costs are a significant portion of the total operating costs, the incumbent is accountable for operating within approved budgets for maintenance costs through enhanced workflow processes.
• Identify strategies for continuous improvement by managing the development of maintenance personnel while also directing personnel to improve maintenance methods, programs, materials and equipment by keeping current on technological developments.
• Provide guidance and coaching to develop and maintain a motivated skilled workforce at all times with special attention to succession planning, skills development, technical upgrading, and interpersonal skills while providing feedback mechanisms such as performance management.
• Provide support to the Mine team on such as fabrication, machining activities, mobile services.

HSEQ
• Be aware, understand, communicate and comply with the Ambatovy Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Policies and associated documentation.
• Be aware and comply with relevant HSEQ legal and other requirements.
• Understand the HSEQ risks relevant to your area of responsibility and ensure the use of the Ambatovy risk framework for their management.
• Support the business plan process, and ensure it aligns with the intent of the HSEQ Policies and associated Objectives, as well as ensure it addresses all significant HSEQ aspects of your area of responsibility.
• Ensure budgets provide for adequate resourcing to enable HSEQ accountability.
• Participate in audits and inspections, as well as support the management of non-conformances, incident and actions as required.
• Drive implementation of agreed HSEQ improvement initiatives.
• Provide direction in an emergency situation.
• General environmental duty not to carry out any activity that causes or is likely to cause environmental harm.
• General duty of care to self and others.
• Hold team members accountable to compliance with Ambatovy HSEQ policies, rules and requirements.
• Coach team members to better performance of required HSEQ tasks.

The Requirements
• An engineering or maintenance trades background supplemented by management training.
• Minimum of 7 years relevant experience in Maintenance Management and practises.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience at management level and Leadership ability in problem solving, project implementation and continuous improvement.
• Knowledge and operation of managing a multi service organization and multi-client operation.
• Able to prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis (included 5 years plan).
• Prior experience in managing a large construction or maintenance organization in an integrated industrial setting.
• Leadership and communication skills with a focus on optimization and continuous improvement.
• Training and developing subordinates (particularly Nationals) to assume positions of greater responsibility in the organization.
• Knowledge of all safety aspects for mechanical and electrical facilities in industrial facilities.
• Must be skilled at dealing with people at all levels so that time management and work schedules can be arranged to obtain optimum benefit to the overall company goals.
• Experienced in contract administration and development.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• French would be an asset.
