1-year position

Supervisor: School Nurse Corps Director

Division: Student Success and Learning

Location/Assignment: Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan & Grant Counties

Salary Range: $80,847.00 - $96,104.00 (level 1)

Salary based on 191 day schedule This is a 1 year position

Sick leave - accrued at 8 hours per month will be prorated based on total days

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position is a rare opportunity to join an exciting team. The regional Educational Service District 171 (NCESD) is seeking a dynamic team player interested in making an impact in the lives of district staff as the Public Health Initiative RN for 29 School Districts within our ESD region. The job of Public Health Initiative RN functions as a networking partner with the Washington State Department of Health (DOH), NCESD School Nurse Corps (SNC), Local Health Jurisdictions (LHJs), Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), Association of Educational Service Districts (AESD), and other statewide partners. The Public Health Initiative RN provides support of public health initiatives to school districts in the NCESD region, including COVID-19 testing program support, pandemic/post-pandemic support, other emerging infections and health conditions and public health initiatives, and SNC program objectives.

Qualifications:

Required:

● Verified, unencumbered WA State RN license.

● Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.

● School nurse experience in a K -12 school setting.

● Valid WA State Driver’s License and access to reliable personal transportation.

● Experience in logistics management, managing projects and creating and implementing processes and procedures.

● Experience conducting needs assessment and collaborating with stakeholders to identify priorities and methods to meet needs.

Preferred:

● Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Public Health, or education-related Master’s degree.

● WA State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) school nurse certification.

● National Certified School Nurse credential.

Skills, Knowledge, and/or Abilities:

● Knowledge of WA State laws, regulations and practice standards related to school health services.

● Knowledge of professional nursing standards, principles and practices within a school environment.

● Knowledge of and ability to practice confidentiality standards in a school setting.

● Proficient computer applications skills, including K-12 student information systems, applicable WA State databases, and word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.

● Ability to work independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve objectives.

● Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and schedules, and deal with frequent interruptions.

● Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.

● Exceptionally high commitment to task accomplishment and flexibility in working hours and days.

Responsibilities:

● Participates in DOH and SNC data management processes, including collection, reporting and analysis of student health and health services program data.

● Compiles monthly summary reports that highlight supported partnerships and post-pandemic planning and recovery activities.

● Elevates public health concerns to DOH and LHJs. Collaborates with DOH and LHJs for the purpose of conveying and receiving relevant information.

● Functions as a trusted messenger and representative of the ESD Network and NCESD SNC to elevate public health concerns to DOH.

● Participates in regular coordination calls with DOH and other school partners to represent the school perspective and voice for ongoing coordination and planning work.

● Provides as-needed technical assistance to support COVID-19 testing related activities and other public health initiatives that lay the foundation for future public health response.

● Provides support with post-pandemic planning and recovery activities.

● Participates in pandemic/post-pandemic planning, recovery, and response, to include coordination and integration with other statewide planning efforts.

● Supports Learning Education Agencies (LEAs) with information gathering and/or data collection necessary for state and/or federal reporting purposes.

● Works collaboratively with NCESD staff responsible for student health and safety to align and integrate pandemic/post-pandemic safety and disaster planning and response into existing efforts.

● Supports regional specific pandemic/post-pandemic safety and infectious disease planning for future COVID-19 and other events involving pathogens in partnership with other ESDs.

● Supports SNC program objectives and quality improvement initiatives.

Physical Demands

● Frequent travel within the NCESD region. Some overnight travel may be required.

● Extended or flexible hours as necessary.

● Sitting for extended periods of time may be required. Lifts and carries a maximum of 40 pounds.

● Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech, and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
