SALARY: $48,672 to $68,042 per year (Pay Band 3) (Based on 37.5 hours per week)
JOB PURPOSE:
The objective of the NB Cancer Registry is to collect accurate, complete, timely and high-quality electronic cancer data for residents of New Brunswick for purposes of cancer control, research and surveillance. The information contained in the NB Cancer Registry database consists of patient tumor, stage and death information. This information can be used to monitor cancer trends over time (incidence, mortality and survival rates), evaluate cancer patterns in various populations; identify high risk groups; guide planning and evaluation of cancer control programs(screening); help set priorities for allocating health resources; and advance clinical, epidemiologic and health services research.
Submits data provincially, nationally and internationally to other cancer reporting agencies for public health surveillance purposes (Statistics Canada, Canadian Cancer Registry, North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR), and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and UNB IRDT.
The NB Cancer Operations Manager (CROM) oversees the overall data quality and security of this information.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma
• Successful completion of a recognized two(2) year program in a health care field, or successful completion of a Canadian Health Information Management Association recognized Health Information Management program
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
• 5+ years of management experience Preference may be given to candidates that possess the following asset qualification(s):
• High school diploma, supplemented by a 2 year diploma in a recognized allied health field,
• Course work in medical terminology and/or anatomy and physiology, as well as
• Certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) or eligibility for a CTR certificate
• Management/ supervisory experience
• Ability to attend work on a regular basis
• Ability to perform the duties of the position
• Good work record
• Written and spoken competence in English is required, with French being an asset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reporting to the Health Records Manager, the successful candidate will work closely with the Health Records Manager for department updates
• Day-to-day supervision, overseeing and management of the NB Cancer Registry. This includes the planning, reflowing of workload, scheduling and controlling of activities in the department, as well as ensuring the training of staff, payroll, attendance support, and annual employee reviews.
• Perform Data Quality verifications of overall data (patient, tumour and staging) information through various methods including verification of database (Onco), edits, pre-established CCR and NASCCR edits
• Assure the NB Cancer Registry receives information in a timely manner for all key sources: Various pediatric, Vital Statistics, DAD(Discharge Abstract Database), out of province cases, and CRIS Interface(Path Reports), and Release of Information
• Interact with Epidemiologist, Staging Co-ordinator and consultants as required
• Maintain and update policies as required
• Maintain a relationship between the building owner for office maintenance and building security.
