Montessori Lower Elementary Teacher

We are hiring a full-time Casa Guide to lead one of two Toddler classrooms on our beautiful campus here in the Virgin Islands. You will guide our students through whole-child development and parents through their Montessori journey. You will also play a key role in helping our assistant teachers flourish. This is a wonderful opportunity for a passionate Montessorian excited about building relationships with children, parents, and colleagues in a caring community where growth is valued and encouraged. We are an AMI accredited school at the Primary level but are accepting both AMI and AMS trained applicants.

The Montessori Toddler Guide’s duties are maintaining the classroom environment. The general duties include, but are not limited to:

Lead Guide/Teacher
• Establish a classroom culture of calm, productive work. Supervise the classroom when necessary and work with individual children or small groups of children as directed by the guide.
• Observing, guiding, supervising, and assessing children while they learn in the classroom environment.
• Developing lesson plans, independent learning exercises, curricula, and methods that cater to the individual child's needs.
• Creating and maintaining a safe, clean, stimulating classroom where all children feel safe and valued.
• Establishing rapport and building relationships with students based on trust.
• Setting an excellent example for students instilling good values like honesty, accountability, understanding, tolerance, respect, love, and kindness.
• Monitoring and assessing student progress and writing up reports.
• Ensuring classroom supplies and equipment are available and in working condition.
• Updating records on the school database and handling various other administrative tasks.
• Participating in school activities and accompanying students on field trips
• Be a model to students of integrity, curiosity, responsibility, creativity, and respect for all persons and demonstrate respect and appreciation for racial, cultural, and gender diversity.

Professional Growth:
• Seek feedback to improve performance in supporting the environment and in working with the children.
• Reflect on and pursue professional growth development; work with Montessori Director and Lead Teachers to evaluate and improve skills.
• Participate in structured and informal professional development opportunities.

Communication and Professionalism:
• Communicate effectively and demonstrate professional behavior toward students, families, and co-workers.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a joyful school environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
• Maintain professional appearance, timeliness, and reliability.
• Respond to stress and conflict with professionalism.

Qualifications: Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood teaching, elementary education, or a related discipline is recommended.
• Completed training at an AMI Training Center preferred.
• An ability to teach groups of children of varying ages, needs, and abilities.
• Patience and excellent observational, communication, and diagnostic skills.
• The ability to multitask, keep calm under pressure, and treat everyone with love and respect.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills.
• A lifelong learner who can be a good role model for children

Language/Communication Skills
• Must have good verbal and written communication skills in English.

Mathematical Skills
• Must be proficient and able to assist students with counting and simple operations.

Computer Skills
• Must be capable of using email and other web-based applications.

Reasoning Skills
• Must be able to analyze student behavior and apply appropriate intervention.

Physical Demands

• Ability to regularly sit, reach with hands and arm, stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate.

Evaluation

The Montessori Toddler Guide will be evaluated semi-annually in the fall and spring every year by the Montessori Director. Evaluation will be based on:
• Performance in each of the key areas listed above.
• The employee’s progress towards setting professional goals, working to meet the goals, and reflecting on progress.

Minimum of an undergraduate degree in education field. Preferred Montessori certification. AMI applicants will be considered first
