How can you make a difference?

Under daily supervision of the Emergency Manager, the IMO is responsible to support the Emergency and programme sections in effective coordination and response emergencies in Afghanistan across all Zonal Offices (ZO). This will be done through the development of information management tools and systems, providing support to situational analyses, mapping, manage the collection, analysis and sharing of information that is important for UNICEF and partners to make informed (evidence based) strategic decisions.

Given the evolving situation on the ground there is a need to sustain and at the same time scale up humanitarian assistance, the Field Coordination and Emergency Section needs to maintain up to date information management for informed decision making, enhanced coordination and reduced duplication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Functions / Key Results Expected:

- Leverage Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for map production and geographic data management while promoting data standards and harmonized management of geographic data/information
- Develop mapping tools on areas such as access challenges, gaps, context analyses and any other relevant documents to be used for advocacy
- Support the estimation of spatial and temporal gaps, overlaps and coverage of UNICEF and partner activities and projects
- Adapt and maintain existing in‐country information management approaches for collecting, analysing and reporting UNICEF and partner activities and resources and identifying information gaps and propose ways to bridge those gaps
- Establish and maintain information databases and geospatial databases that consolidate, analyse trends and report/disseminate information to inform critical to decision making
- Identify new information and data requirements to support UNICEF Programs and partners in the provinces, and support ZO’s in gathering and sharing this information and data
- Assist in the implementation of standardized information management policies, data systems and information products across ZO’s.
- In close collaboration with Field Coordination and emergencies and Planning and Monitoring teams, support the humanitarian performance monitoring (HPM) activities
- Lead on the preparation of regular emergency information products, such as the SitReps, presentations, overviews and an emergency dashboard
- Manage flows of information and dissemination in an appropriate way, including the field Coordination and emergency SharePoint and other systems
- Maintain a system of identifying contingency capacity of humanitarian supplies in coordination with pipeline manager/supply & logistic colleagues
- Support the Field Coordination and Emergencies team with key information management products to assist in activities such as risk analysis, HAC planning and any other strategic initiatives of the section
- Support the overall strategic framework and oversight to ensure emergency program delivery and quality, and adherence to UNICEF Core Commitments for Children (CCC) in Emergencies and
- Any other tasks as requested by the line manager.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:Advanced University degree in Computer Science, Demography, Geography, Statistics, Economics or a related field. First university degree with additional two-years of relevant work experience is acceptable in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Work Experience:A minimum of 5 years of experience in data management, statistics, analysis, information technology and administration. Previous work experience in developing countries and crisis affected contexts is required. Previous experience in protracted crises.

Language Requirements:Fluency in English. Additional local language(s) are an asset
