Context
IW has been working with partners in the DRC since 2012, primarily in North Kivu and South Kivu. Since January 2023, we are in the process of expanding our DRC programme. We have a permanent presence in Goma that we are looking to reinforce.
Presently, we are implementing a multi-annual project (2022-2025) with the objective of promoting victim participation in community-based transitional justice processes at the community level in North Kivu and South Kivu. In parallel, we are about to launch a second project aimed at increasing the meaningful participation of victims, affected communities, and young people in national political decision-making on TJ.
In the DRC, we work with victim groups to increase their political influence; we train civil society, including media organisations, to promote and monitor transitional justice processes; and we advocate for community-based recommendations at the provincial and national levels.
Job description
To provide specialised TJ know-how, expert political analysis, and to support the execution of our strategies in the DRC we are seeking a Programme Officer/Researcher (100%).
The Programme Officer/Researcher will support the expansion and growth of our DRC TJ programme. Among their first responsibilities will be to conduct a political analysis of TJ in the DRC.
Thereafter, the Programme Officer/Researcher will work at three principal intervention levels. (1) They will organise and run capacity-strengthening sessions among victim groups and civil society, and provide support to our partners in the establishment of community-based TJ. (2) They will support the design and execution of research into community expectations of TJ, followed by data analysis and production of policy reports. (3) They will participate in advocacy actions and expert workshops with national and international policymakers.
The ideal candidate will have unmistakable TJ knowledge and highly-tuned political analysis skills.
The candidate must have an affinity with the mission, vision, and approach of our organisation. Ideally, we are seeking a young Congolese professional who will grow with our programme as it expands.
