I. Background

Thisposition is under the “Sweet Recovery” Project funded by USAID. The goal of theproject is to assist 80,000 drought-affected households in 9 districts of 3regions of Southern Madagascar, re-establish sweetpotato production and buildforward better towards a more climate-resilient production system, by providingaccess to quality planting material (“seed”) of adapted vitamin A richorange-fleshed sweetpotato (OFSP) varieties and knowledge of how to store andprepare roots for enhanced food security and use as seed. As we are in thefinal stages of the first phase of the program, we are recruiting a Communicationsand Knowledge Transfer consultant.

II. Objective

Theselected consultant will assist in developing and refining existing job toolsand writing success stories and producing vignettes about those stories.

Work location: Ambovombe, Madagascarwith extensive travel in Southern Madagascar.

III. Deliverables

·Develop quality stories with visual evidence andshort videos about beneficiaries of project interventions.

·Develop an effective set of training tools usingvideo and radio approaches for low literacy populations in Southern Madagascar.

·Collaborate in the design and implementation of keypromotional, fair or market-based events for promoting the diversified use oforange-fleshed sweetpotato and the purchase of quality planting material.

Requirements

IV.Selection Criteria

·Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism,Media Studies or a related area.

·At least 5 years of working experience.

· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability tocollaborate with team members to design, produce and validate effectivetraining tools and promotional materials that are appropriate for targetaudience and the agro-ecological setting, ensuring that all tools aregender-responsive.

·Excellent writing and speaking skills in French andMalagasy; working knowledge of English preferred; Knowledge of local dialectsin the South preferred.

·Excellent knowledge of social media, website document management andradio programming.

·Excellent photographic and/or videography skills.

·Experience writing scripts and success stories withthe ability to explain scientific concepts and findings for a general audience.

·Experience in event management preferred.

·Experience working with teams of graphic artists andothers for designing training tools

V. Time frame

·Consultancy contract will be for 90 days.

·Needs to be available to start by 10th April 2023 or earlier.
