Eastern State Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission.

ESH invites applications for the position of Trades Technician III – Electrician / Generalist.

Reporting directly to the Director of Buildings & Grounds, duties and responsibilities consist of the providing a safe comfortable environment of residents and staff by ensuring reliable electrical power, proper operation and maintenance of electrical systems, fire alarm systems, food service, HVAC/R, elevators, emergency generators and other hospital owned electrical equipment in compliance with Joint Commission an CMS requirements. Reads and interprets blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics and troubleshoots and repairs all types of electrical systems.

This position is considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency, pandemic, or facility need. All ESH positions are required to work different shifts to include nights, weekends and holidays, and/or overtime as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate from a trade school and/or completion of accredited Electrical Apprenticeship or the equivalent of training and work experience may take place of education.

Valid Driver’s License.

Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics.

Experience in troubleshooting and repairing of all types of electrical systems.

Experience in the development of cost estimates and specifications.

Experience in sizing, bending and installing conduits, raceways and conductors.

Experience in compliance and support of JC, CMS, VOHSA, NFPA, NATIONAL, STATE and LOCAL codes and standards.

Advanced experience in fire alarm systems, elevators, commercial or light industrial electrical controls and/or distribution systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

CFC License Certification.

Journeyman Electrical Card.
