Description
• The Pre-Med Gap Year - Medical Scribe is present during clinical services and accompanies Provider during patient interviews and examinations
• Identifies/introduces self and role to patient and/or family
• Accurately documents information and conversations into the electronic health record (EHR) in real time, on behalf of the Provider
• Observes and accurately enters details and decisions from practitioner-patient encounters directly into the EHR
• Records pertinent information, positive and negative findings in patient history and physical examination, including but not limited to history of present illness, past medical/surgical history, social history, review of systems, medications, allergies, and family communication
• Assists with preparation of paperwork for disposition of patients from clinic setting
• Helps increase Provider productivity and workflow by performing a variety of non-clinical tasks including assisting the Provider in navigating the EHR, researching information requested by the Provider, locating information for review (previous notes, reports, tests/lab results)
• Ensures documentation in the EHR includes a statement that “Document has been prepared at the direction and conjunction with Provider” also with the Scribe’s name and title, and that the Provider has included an attestation regarding the accuracy of the note
• Generates and prints patient plan
• Conduct clinically-oriented project, defined by department
• Present on research findings at the end of the program
• Participate in faculty-led lectures

Program Start Date - Wednesday, July 12th, 2023

Program Time Commitment: 1 year duration

Qualifications
• Recent graduate of a Bachelor’s program
• Minimum 3.4 GPA (exceptions made on a case-by-case basis)
• Completion of relevant coursework (or efforts toward completion underway)
• Demonstrates intent to apply to medical school
