Description:

We are seeking a creative, flexible, vibrant and enthusiastic person, couple or family to join the team in Puerto Rico. The ideal person is a team player who is excited about joining a growing ministry and willing to get connected at all levels of national ministry. We are looking for a self-starter who is excited to grow ministry in San Juan. Must be a life-long learner and willing to come alongside local leaders. There are currently 2 staff on the southeast end of the Island who are ready to walk alongside the next Area Director.

The area is an international school in the heart of San Juan that currently has a few volunteers and another staff person driving into town to lead the club. The school would like to see Young Life thrive and is ready for an inspired leader to help build teams.

Responsibilities:

Spiritual Development
• Has a relationship with Jesus Christ and is actively growing in ways outside of the Young Life ministry.
• Grasps the idea of “relational ministry” and earning the right to be heard in the community.
• Spiritually develops volunteer leaders, committees, and students in the local area. Develops a thought out vision and plan for spiritual growth.
• Adheres to Young Life’s policies for staff people.
• Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.

Volunteer Development/Direct Ministry
• Able to inspire and cast vision, inviting new volunteer committees and leaders into the ministry while giving them ownership and helping them to develop as leaders.
• Models consistency and excellence in building relationships with students, programmatic events including bible studies, outreach related activities, leader meetings and committee meetings. These are often night time meetings.
• Implements a recruiting and training program to help volunteers become excellent in their roles and with students.
• Executes a camp strategy that maximizes students opportunities to respond and react to the Christian faith. Includes week long summer camping, week long discipleship camping, and weekend camping trips throughout the year as scheduled.
• Maintains accurate information on kids, leaders, and donors for area records.

Resource Development
• Provides leadership to the volunteer adult committee partnering to raise the local area budget as well as maintaining it with stewardship capability.
• Helps to develop and execute a financial strategy to achieve budgetary goals. This includes personal fundraising, fundraising events, and gathering area donations. The Area Director’s responsibility is to ensure that 100% of the funds are raised for the area.
• Is the “Chief Asker, Communicator, and Storyteller”. Has a communication plan for the area to reach new and current parents, students, leaders, school administration, and committee.

Continued Training
• Pursues National, Divisional, and Regional Trainings as assigned. Travels when necessary throughout the year.
• Attends month-long assignments at Young Life properties in the summer when assigned.

Qualifications:
• Demonstrated strong Young Life team leadership experience.
• Previous Young Life staff experience is preferred.
• Adventurous and adaptable attitude for a new culture. Must be able to relate, work and build community in a multicultural, multilingual area.
• Must maintain confidentiality.
• College degree preferred.
• Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Fluency in Spanish is preferred; language school is required if you are not fluent in Spanish.
• Willingness to make a 3 year commitment.

Benefits:

Housing supplements and cost of living adjustments help make living overseas affordable for international staff. In addition, staff may raise funds and be reimbursed for the purchase of a vehicle, an annual personal trip to see family, pre-K through 12th grade private school education for dependent children, language school, moving expenses, and a one-time bonus of up to two-months’ salary.
