Opportunity at a Glance

The Manager of Academic Support works collaboratively with faculty/administration to develop, implement and evaluate strategies to enhance student learning across the 4-year medical school program. The Manager will also respond to students at risk of, and those experiencing, academic difficulties by assessing and tailoring academic interventions to improve academic performance. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Offices of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

Responsibilities
• Screen, assess and diagnose individual learning problems and other student barriers to academic success
• Develop, implement, and coordinate pre-matriculation and orientation programs to improve students’ learning skills
• Intervene with, and develop learning plans with, underperforming students to improve needed learning skills (testing skills, study skills, critical thinking, communication, reading and writing)
• Administer individual and group interventions to improve performance on high-stakes standardized testing (institutional and international)
• Collaborating with members of the faculty and administration, design, contribute to and implement academic workshops for medical and clinical science faculty on learning and assessment
• Collaborate with members of the Wellness Center to address psychosocial issues and screen for anxiety, depression and other emotional barriers to learning (including referral and monitoring)
• Assist students with diagnosed learning disabilities develop strategies, resources and plans that enhance their academic performance, coordinating this with the testing center and Dean of Student Affairs
• Facilitate the tutoring programs (peer and faculty) for medical sciences and clinical students (includes recruitment and training tutors, assessing their feedback and budget management
• Using database systems and confidential record keeping practices, monitor and track individual student performance in a case management style to contribute to Medical Student Academic Support meetings and procedures
• Collaborate with and support administration and course faculty in developing effective remediation strategies and policies
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications
• PhD Required or EdD in Educational Psychology, School Psychology, Counseling, Learning Disabilities/Special Education, with knowledge of psychological and educational assessment techniques. Candidates with other degrees plus extensive experience will be considered.
• 5 years of experience working in a post-secondary science education setting required.
• Strong preference will be shown candidates with experience in educational assessment, academic remediation and learning skills development in medical education settings with diverse student populations.
• Willingness and ability to reside in Sint Maarten
