Assistant Department Manager - BCF

Position Overview

Essential Duties:
• Act as liaison between Department Managers and Department employees by providing an effective line of communication with regard to company policies.
• Monitor all departmental production, production quality, processes and procedures and ensure that all employees continually follow departmental SMS procedures and instructions.
• Give direction and support to department employees with regard to achieving departmental goals and objectives as well as assist in coordinating and maintaining the Department's work force in order to ensure that the goals and objectives are feasible.
• Identify, coordinate, and/or oversee special departmental projects that contribute to continued improvement in the areas of efficiency, productivity and quality.
• Assist employees in resolving any job-related problems or concerns to include P.I. (Process Improvement) process, 5S, LSW, SPC, quality, safety, equipment and training.
• Attend and/or conduct periodic departmental meetings.
• When the need arises, perform or delegate the performance of any of the various jobs or procedures within the department while referring to the appropriate SMS Instructional and Procedural documentation.
• Actively participate in P.R.I.D.E. process either through involvement in a P.R.I.D.E. subcommittee or through creating employee P.R.I.D.E. awareness or both.
• Provide direct supervision to the Raw Materials and Dryer teams and provide coaching to Supervisors and leads
• Assist with PI area as needed
• Assist Department Manager in monitoring and addressing cost issues concerning labor and spending for repair and maintenance parts
• Ensure participation of EITs
• Review non-conforming product as needed to determine the disposition
• Lead and participate in tier 1 and 2 meetings
• Abide by and enforce plant safety rules and regulations

Non-Essential Duties:
• Fill in for department manager in his/her absence (refer to Department Manager’s job description)
• Serve on task forces and committees as necessary

Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience
• (preferred) Experience in carpet manufacturing and ability to identify carpet defects
• Lean Six Sigma trained (preferred)
• Leadership, management, and team building skills
• Read, comprehend, and analyze data/reports
• Communicate to employees both in speech and in writing
• Ensure the work environment is free of harassment and that employees feel free to express problems and concerns
• Assure compliance of all corporate policies

Physical Requirements:
• Sit or stand intermittently for at least 8 hours
• May need to climb steps several times per day
• May need to walk through plant several times per day

Work Shift

12 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts PM
