The Company
Our client operates on a large-scale copper and cobalt deposits, both open pit and underground, with high-grade mineral reserves. Metals production is conducted using up-to-date metallurgical processing. They are one of the world's largest diversified natural resource companies, producing and marketing over 90 commodities worldwide. The company's operations include copper, zinc, nickel, cobalt, and precious metals mining.

The Role
Reporting directly to the Exploration Manager, the key role of the incumbent will be to lead the team that manages drilling, drilling contractors and the geological context of drilling. He/She will ensure the safe implementation of the project in accordance with the plan; he/she will develop and modify the plan in the geological context and understand and contribute to the geological model. He/She will be responsible for the safety, quality and quantity of drilling production, including exploration, geotechnical and support other disciplines The incumbent will lead and manage a large team of employees and contractors. He/She will interact with the resource geology team in planning, modelling and well operations and with the underground mine drilling superintendent. As close collaboration is essential, he/she will work with the sample management superintendent on project performance.

The Responsibilities
• Promote Safety Culture: Implement safety management systems within the department, supervise and ensure that contractor operations meet safety standards, implement all required safety initiatives, act as owner contractor for relevant contracts.
• Manage Drilling: Plan and re-plan drilling based on resource needs (improved confidence, improved delineation, operational requirements, etc.), prepare drilling schedule and forecasts, monitor drilling production and contractor performance, provide information on the status of drilling processes for project monitoring, ensure that holes are drilled according to plan, including hole trajectories, collar positions and target intersections, participate in special projects (e.g. GeoMet drilling ), manage a team of geologists and their resources (vehicles, etc.) to monitor and control contractors, to ensure all work is properly recorded and approved, support non-exploratory, geotechnical, hydroelectric, geometallurgical drilling programs and quality control as required, develop SOWs and BOQs for drilling contracts in collaboration with the Exploration Manager.
• Implement geological model and manage data: Ensure that all drill holes, geology and contract information is entered and loaded into the database in a timely and accurate manner. Assist in maintaining the integrity and validity of all exploration data.
• Collaborate and Integrate Teams: Work closely with geology teams to provide technical support for grade control drilling, work with survey to ensure drill points are pre-set and final collars are properly surveyed. Integrate workloads with Core and Sampling Superintendent to balance priorities, work with contractors to ensure contractors contractual obligations are met, work with the departments to ensure contractual obligations are met e.g. mining operations, dewatering, legal, finance etc. work with stores and logistics to ensure supply of essential items (base plates), work with resource geologists on and off site to ensure alignment with JORC (Joint Ore Reserve Committee ) or other required standards.
• Supervise and Coach: Provide leadership and guidance to a team of geologists and technicians, foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging knowledge sharing and professional development, conduct performance reviews and implement training and development programs to enhance team skills, manage relevant employment contracts as required, Manage the exploration drilling section, develop goals and objectives for direct reports and monitor and evaluate their performance, ensure deadlines are met, review and validate the work of others, set an example as a safety leader, provide full-time coverage of essential tasks, organize and manage multiple priorities.
• Ensure Compliance: Stay informed of changes in hydrogeological regulations and industry best practices, ensure that the organization's hydrogeological activities comply with local laws, state and federal regulations, represent the organization at regulatory meetings and maintain positive relationships with regulatory authorities, prepare reports for the government as required.

Qualifications and experience
• Hold a University Degree at level A1 or A0 in Geology or a related field
• Have at least 10 years of professional experience in exploration and/or management of mineral resources
• Have experience in managing multidisciplinary teams
• Proficiency in English is an asset for the candidate

Technical Skills
• Have mastery of Microsoft office
• Have demonstrated experience and understanding of DDH and RC Drilling
• Have demonstrated ability to use Leapfrog
• Have strong analytical thinking skills
• Be proactive and able to anticipate and manage project needs
