Join our team as a Community Library Manager I at the Saint Paul Public Library!

Saint Paul Public Library has two immediate full-time openings. Additional vacancies may occur during the length of this eligible list. The employees holding these positions will need to be available to work evenings and weekends
Information about these Positions:

Performs entry level professional library work such as providing reference and referral services, serving as a staff resource, assisting customers in locating library materials, and participating in the collection development and maintenance programs. Ensures daily operations of a smaller branch or an area of work within a larger library, including tasks related to service delivery and ensuring the needs of staff and patrons are met. Uses community engagement methods to meet the educational, recreational, and cultural information needs of the community. Handles immediate facility issues with maintenance staff. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Typical Duties:
• Prioritizes and coordinates patron services for small branches, less complex branches, or as delegated within other units of SPPL. Includes work with customer service delivery, collection maintenance, reference, and referral services, and fosters community connections with stakeholders.
• Works with community groups and uses community engagement methods for receiving input.
• Supports and executes library system programs and provides tools and identifies tools for staff learning and growth.
• Assigns, orients, and monitors the work of assigned staff. Participates in staffing the branch within the budget and according to business needs.
• Identifies continuous improvement procedures for work in the library branch.
• Promotes safe and welcoming spaces for patrons and staff. Handles patron behavior situations. Trains and models safety and de-escalation techniques.
• Handles immediate facility issues with maintenance staff.
• Represents the library branch or systemwide on community committees and taskforces to deliver services in a culturally responsive manner.
• Participates in the design and implementation of branch and system wide projects.

A bachelor's degree and 24 semester credits in courses leading to an American Library Association (ALA) accredited master’s degree in Library Science.

OR

A bachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience to include at least two of the following: a library setting, project or program implementation, volunteer coordination, team facilitation, customer service delivery, or community outreach work.

OR

An associate degree or two years of relevant college coursework; AND three years of professional experience to include at least three of the following: experience in library setting, project or program, volunteer coordination, team facilitation, customer service delivery, or community outreach work.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Open Job Posting: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements.

Eligible Lists: Eligible lists typically are created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.

Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.

Condition of Employment: This position requires a background check which may include criminal history, and employment history as a condition of employment. Candidates will be required to submit proof of education to Human Resources upon conditional job offer.
