What You Will Do:
• Under direct supervision of the area leadership or a senior professional, the General Accountant is responsible for the application of accounting principles and practices to a variety of accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and/or other fiscal functions. Prepares financial and accounting reports accurately and within established timeframes. Responsible for the preparation and posting of journal entries and reports and account reconciliations and demonstrates solid understanding of the reconciliations assigned. Responsible for the identification, performance and completion of process improvements within assigned area. Performs special projects as assigned by the Controller. Ability to work with databases and spreadsheets.
• Prepare and key various journal entries relating to the general ledger and assist with financial statement preparation and ensures they are posted within established timeframes.
• Performs duties according to established procedures, protocols and professional standards.
• Responsible for the daily accuracy of the operating cash of Firelands Health.
• Prepare daily information for the cashiers and daily deposit reconciliations.
• Reconcile Firelands Health’s general checking account as well as other bank accounts.
• Organize and maintain accurate files on statistics and other general accounting data.
• Prepare and organize, concise reports and work papers.
• Reconcile various balance sheet accounts as assigned.
• Prepare and reconcile miscellaneous billings.
• Work on various projects and assignments, as required.
• Regularly challenges the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting department procedures and communicates recommended revisions.
• Prepare applications for various insurance companies.
• Assist with the year-end audit.
• Assists with other areas in the department when backlogs occur.
• Effectively interacts with and provides guidance to internal and external customers.
What You Will Need:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance with a minimum of 1 to 3 years’ experience in general accounting.
• Demonstrates ability in all phases of accounting, including but not limited to the keeping of the cash received and/or other journals.
• Proficiency with spreadsheet software required.
• Knowledge of financial reporting and generally accepted accounting principles required.
• Demonstrates analytical skills and abilities and ability to research complex issues and investigate variances.
• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious team-oriented working relationships with co-workers and external contacts and work effectively in a professional team environment.
• Successful completion of a one-hundred eighty (180) day probationary period.
