Summary

As the Electrical Engineer within our Utilimaster division based at our Fleet Vehicles & Services facility in Bristol, IN, you will be accountable for partnering cross-functionally on the development of electrical, electro-electro-mechanical systems and interfaces used in Utilimaster products.

Your day-to-day will involve collaborating with internal and external customers and suppliers, and communicating your technical vision and ideas in a concise manner, utilizing both visual and verbal methods.

Furthermore, your efforts will be pivotal in the creation of vital manufacturing processes and the work you will accomplish in this role will be instrumental in shaping the future of how electric fleet vehicles are designed, built, and delivered.

• Performing electrical engineering and problem analysis for Utilimaster products, including wire harnesses, electrical, and electro-mechanical components, and interfaces
• Extracting technical customer requirements from customers
• Conducting design reviews and facilitating communications between departments
• Translating technical requirements with manufacturing, quality, sales, and other internal partners
• Delivering engineering solutions and revisions to other teams within The Shyft Group via component drawings, assembly and installation drawings, and Engineering Change Notices
• Creating and maintaining design standards and guidelines for components, system interfaces, and assemblies
• Representing Utilimaster Engineering during customer site visits and customer pilot reviews
• Providing design solutions that exceed customer expectations for quality, cost, performance, and timing
• Preparing and supporting design and technical reviews with OEM partners for system-level engineering issues
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and requirements, the lean checklist, and engineering documentation standards
• Creating validation plans that clearly explain customer requirements
Examining electrical systems issues and determining root-cause
• Studying schematic and block diagrams and electrical components data sheets of the systems
• Evaluating bench and vehicle log files for system issues

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree Electrical Engineering
• 2+ years of electrical engineering expertise within a manufacturing setting, preferably within the automotive, on-highway trucking, or specialty vehicles industry
• Robust skills within a design environment utilizing SOLIDWORKS
Knowledge of problem-solving tools such as Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Root-Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), and 8D
• A strong understanding of safety and regulation requirements
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Experience utilizing database management tools
• A history of supporting technology development, innovation, efficiency, and process improvement activities
• Demonstrated capacity to consider the broader view when making technical decisions
• A track record of defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions for cross-functional reviews
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 10-20% of time domestically
• Demonstrable experience driving solutions with production
• Heavy-duty truck and/or motor vehicle electrical experience
• Familiarity with FMVSS requirements
• A reputation for having solid communication, interpersonal, troubleshooting, testing skills
