The City Planner is responsible for the field of city planning, which requires analysis, organizing, and conducting complex planning studies to enforce City Codes, ordinances, planning site plan conditions and restrictions, and permits related to the Zoning Ordinance, under the direction of the Operations Administrator. Supervisory and professional administrative work is performed by employees in this group. The Zoning Code and regulations of the City and County are directed, implemented, and enforced by this position. As needed, performs related responsibilities.

Qualifications:
• In charge of the design and implementation of community and stakeholder engagement projects.
• Documents for public hearings, meetings, and presentations to the Board of Directors are produced by this individual. Proposed projects are given to municipal governments, planning commissions, architectural design review boards, and the general public.
• To aid in the creation of planning improvement and to change planned goals in accordance with the results of statistical research and comparison analysis.
• Planners oversee zoning and landscape architecture in their district. This role recommends and implements procedural changes to the city's zoning plan approval process or urban planning strategy (i.e amendments to the plans, site plans, drawings, and reports, etc).
• Office supplies, software, and processes that are commonplace in today's business workplaces are used.
• Support the development and maintenance of the Comprehensive Plan by providing assistance in planning and implementing the plan's chapters, updates, status reports, as well as other associated tasks.
• Plan daily delivery using equipment, labour, and other resources to satisfy client expectations.
• Examines and processes development applications. These may include site plans and subdivision requests, as well as conditional use permits and other land development proposals. Makes sure that applications are in compliance with the Urban Development Code and the City's comprehensive plan, which are both part of the city's code.
• Recommending the best choice for improving the customer's financial condition or sending the client to the appropriate individual to suit their needs.
• Responsible for developing programs for gathering and evaluating data on economic, social, and physical aspects impacting land use, as well as producing data-driven graphics and narrative reports.

Skills:
• At the professional level, you need to know about and be able to do things like this: urban planning and redevelopment.
• Minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in a municipal planning and zoning function, with a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity, in the fields of urban planning, environmental planning, regional planning, or urban design
• Accuracy in decision-making; quick and rational reasoning; ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
• What you need to know about communities and how they work together: current and emerging trends in land use regulations, real estate development laws, land use and land use planning; the legal foundation and techniques used to write land use regulations, real estate and land use planning; and how to make a comprehensive map of a community.
