Berea College invites applications for a full-time, three-year-term appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor of Religions and Spirituality . This position is for a fixed, limited term. While not guaranteed, there is the possibility of term renewal or conversion to a tenure-track position following high performance subject to the curricular needs of the College. Applicants will hold a Ph.D in religious studies, with a primary focus in Religious Ethics , with specialization in one of the following fields: Religions, Gender, Social Justice and Environmental Studies . Additional qualifications include a record of excellence in teaching at the collegiate level, an established or a developing agenda for research that indicates potential for sustained and excellent peer-reviewed scholarship, and abilities to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and multi-disciplinary research. The College welcomes applicants with diverse disciplinary, theoretical, and methodological perspectives. Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with education, experience and scholarship record.

The annual teaching load of six courses combines periodic shared responsibilities for courses in the following categories: (a) introductory and other courses in studies of religions and spiritualities; (b) curricular contributions to the General Education Program of the College; and (c) courses in the successful candidate’s area of specialization. The College seeks a scholar/teacher who will aid the Department for Studies of Religions and Spirituality in enriching its interdisciplinary connections and broadening the scope of its service to key features of the institutional mission. The College regards both commitment to the institutional mission and superior teaching at the collegiate level as essential requirements for this interdisciplinary three-year-term faculty position.
