The Berea College Department of Theatre invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor in Scene & Lighting Design to begin August 2023. An MFA Theatre Design or equivalent required at the time of appointment. We welcome applicants with deep experience in one area of design with the desire to pursue other design areas as part of their professional development.

The successful candidate will:
• Design scenery, lighting, and projections/media (if necessary) for all main stage productions, typically 3-4 per year.
• Teach a variety of Theatre design and technology courses, in addition to teaching courses based on departmental and college-wide neA course release is available per term for design and technology responsibilities. Faculty are expected to teach, when possible, in the General Education Program.
• Oversee scene, sound, and lighting shops and supervise a safe, professional environment, assisted by the Shop Supervisor.
• Mentor students who are studying design and technology through the Co-curricular Production Program and the Labor Program.
• Share technical directing duties with the Shop Supervisor.
