The Job

Reporting to the Commercial Director – MEAC, the jobholder is expected to trade in tea by buying it either directly from producers or from the tea auction and selling it to international buyers. Develop strategies to grow the existing tea markets and penetrate the new markets with the aim of increasing Finlays’ market share globally.

It entails formulating top quality tea standards as per customers’ requirements, buying of tea from auction and directly from producers with aim of meeting customers’ expectations in the most competitive manner and ensuring the company’s desired profit margins are achieved.

Key responsibilities
• Work closely with the MEAC Commercial team to develop and execute pre-agreed strategies built around developing new business growth, new blend formulation and development
• Identify the new tea market trend with a view of developing new innovative quality tea products, blend standards to target new and existing tea markets.
• Developing growth strategies by identifying opportunities, negotiating for contracts, and closing business deals.
• Forecast sales targets and ensuring that they are met by the respective team within the region.
• Identify and attend industry’s events, tradeshows and other business in the tea trading functions to keep abreast with developments in the marketplace, consumer preferences and general tea consumption trends.
• Deliver the MEAC “Must Win Battles” for new business in the tea trading function.
• Tasting and selecting teas for standards
• Preparing relevant trading and market reports
• Resolve customer complaints within the shortest time and to the satisfaction of the customer.
• Costing blend standards in accordance with the laid down costing models.
• Prepare costing models for models for value added products
• Responsibility for the financial performance of the regional business unit
• Personnel and administration
• Implementation of zero harm safety strategy
• Shipping and export related documentation
• Responsible for working capital management
• Maintain working relationship with key stakeholders such as tax authority, auditors, brokers, producers
• Improve internal control environment including organizing quarterly stock take

Minimum Requirements
• Hold a degree in Business, Marketing, Food science or other related field from a reputable University.
• 10 years’ experience in a similar or equivalent role in an established organization.
• Knowledge and understanding of the tea industry
• Excellent Marketing skills
• Expert in Microsoft office 365, PowerPoint and Excel
• Excellent tea tasting skills
• Good blend formulation skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Working knowledge of iTTS
• Basic Finance knowledge
• Shipping and related documentation knowledge
• Commercial acumen and with knowledge in commercial arithmetic
