Position Overview:

Working within a multidisciplinary & multi-stakeholder team at our Client's, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the sales of commercial solar equipment to developers and supporting customers from project inception through implementation.

The VP Sales will coordinate the Executive team members and consultants to ensure projects are completed within schedule and budget. This will include screening of project acquisition opportunities as well as supporting developer customers in development of Greenfield sites.

Travel within the US, Canada, and potentially to other destinations in the Caribbean or elsewhere will be required initially 50 % of the time. (to be discussed)

Essential Job Functions

Execute the Client’s renewable energy business development strategies in co-ordination with other members of the leadership team.

Support customers through the project development process including site selection, land leases, solar resource assessment environmental approval, and interconnection.

Provide regular reporting on development progress, and present projects for necessary internal corporate review and approvals.

Assist with project acquisitions including identification and screening of opportunities and performing due diligence in one or more areas of expertise.

Co-ordinate project teams including setting and adhering to project budgets and schedules and providing team members with feedback on performance.

Maintain a network of industry contacts to promote the Client’s business development activities and remain abreast of opportunities for solar and industry trends impacting development opportunities and projects.

Keep abreast of regulatory developments (commercial and technical) as they relate to

company projects.

Other Functions

Contribute to department budgeting and internal process development and review.

Due diligence for acquisitions and partnerships.

Requirements / Skills / Abilities

Individual must have a professional approach and positive attitude, especially when representing the company to external parties.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written in English (Spanish a plus).

Strong project management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.

Ability to work at a high energy level, creative ability to generate ideas and a willingness to work to complete tasks on a timely basis.

Ability to think creatively to successfully overcome obstacles and achieve objectives, financial targets and/or deadlines.

Ability to travel to conduct site visits, conduct development-related tasks and meetings.

Demonstrated ability to take initiative, self motivated.

Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, both written and verbal.

Excellent organizational, prioritizing and time management skills.

Good negotiating skills and general business acumen including technical, legal, quantitative and economic analysis skills.

Experience / Education

The ideal candidate will have completed a technical undergraduate four-year degree (engineering or science) and will have 8+ years business development and/or commercial experience in the renewable energy industry in the United States. Professional designation preferred. MBA or other business training a plus.

Experience selling a VALUE-based product or service that was not the lowest price product available. Ability to win business by selling value as opposed to cutting price is critical to success in the role.

Experience as a leader or member of multi-disciplinary teams, including cross-functional internal teams and third-party consultants/advisors.

Deep knowledge of the Southwest USA renewable energy market with respect to generation, transmission, regulatory requirements, available rebates and financial incentives, electricity market dynamics, etc. Knowledge of the same market details in Canadian and Eastern USA markets a plus.

Understanding of photovoltaic technology and ability to review available products for site suitability.

Creation of and adherence to project development budgets and schedules. Experience with construction and operation budgets/schedules a plus.

Contract review and negotiation experience.

Completion of permitting and approvals on solar sites.

Stakeholder communication including landowners, local government authorities, community members, opposition, etc.

Experience with software, including MS Office, GIS, Project, etc
