The Senior Data Engineer will support our software developers, database architects, analysts, and data scientists on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. At IMO, our data is not merely a side effect or bonus; it is the core of our products, the mission critical deliverable for our clients. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even re-designing our company’s data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives.

Join our growing Product Development/Software Engineering Organization as a Senior Data Engineer to help design, create, and support high quality solutions that support 80% of US clinicians and build the application of Data Engineering within IMO!

Responsibilities
• Demonstrate understanding and awareness for the high importance that terminology data plays in IMO’s products – utilize this to consistently inform work
• Update, analyze, fix, enhance, & build IMO products through direct interaction and understanding of code and data
• Assemble, analyze, and interpret large + complex datasets through the application of both technical skills and a solid foundational understanding of IMO’s terminology data
• Construct infrastructure required for optimal ETL of data from varied sources through use of SQL and AWS ‘big data’ technologies
• Identify, design, and implement improvements(automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery and performance, implementing orchestration frameworks, re-designing data pipeline infrastructure for scalability, availability, and reliability, etc.)
• Design data platform components for bulk, transactional, and streaming access
• Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
• Support application-specific availability, scalability, and monitoring of resources + costs
• Develop and document quality source code
• Maintain database schema and infrastructure around data (build new infrastructure as needed)
• Improve and maintain data model
• Promote data quality awareness and execute data quality management procedures
• Mentor colleagues, give feedback, and provide a leadership presence on the team. Take ownership, be proactive, and think comprehensively to anticipate impacts & take action
• Deliver quality outputs through testing, transparency, inspection, and adaptation
• Implement creative solutions to technical challenges, embrace out-of-the-box thinking, and apply knowledge and learning from various disciplines
• Work cross functionally in a dynamic and agile environment on a scrum team. Collaborate with broad range of stakeholders to translate needs to requirements, assist with data/infrastructure, partner on creation of innovative products, and foster trust/commitment/accountability

Requirements
• Relevant technical BA/ BS Degree and three years of experience, OR five years of relevant professional experience
• Advanced working SQL knowledge. Experience with query authoring, relational databases (PostgreSQL), and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Elasticsearch)
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills
• Experience in data modeling, logical/physical database designing
• Hands on exposure to object-oriented/functional scripting languages (Python, Java, C++)
• Success with manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets
• Experience building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, and metadata
• Working familiarity with agile development that incorporates Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)utilizing technologies (GIT, Terraform)
• Enjoyment of challenges, eagerness to explore new approaches, and willingness to ask for help
