Job Summary

This position will support SMCC faculty in teaching with Canvas, utilizing various pedagogical and technical teaching tools, and represent the college at some district wide Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) committees and events, assist with CTL learning workshops, work with the CTL Director to help champion new innovations related to pedagogy and technology.

Essential Functions

Instructional Design & Support: Consults, trains, and serves as a resource person to the faculty, in the design,development, evaluation and revision of teaching, learning, programs, curriculum, and assessment needs; assists in staff development on instructional applications of technologies and instructional methods; facilitates the implementation of instructional innovations; supports faculty in course planning and pedagogical development, including the integration of technology; explores and evaluates new technologies, materials, and techniques for their applicability to educational uses.

Assist CTL Director with Strategic Planning for CTL: Provide input into creating strategies, direction, goals and initiatives for the training and development of faculty and staff; works across functional areas to leverage resources to implement strategic goals related to the Strategic Directions and Priorities; help foster a vision and current knowledge
of teaching excellence grounded in educational research and expertise; evaluates trainings through surveys to assess in-services, webinars, classes, needs assessment, etc.; analyzes data related to retention, success rates, student progression, and institutional surveys in order to identify areas of training for continuous improvement; participates with senior leadership to establish strategic plans and objectives and cultivates the support for the scholarship of teaching and learning; Represent South Mountain Community College CTL at campus, district, state and national committees and conference as directed by CTL director to share resources and best practices while building professional relationships with other colleges and universities; help foster the exploration and use of innovative technologies and pedagogy best practices for all modalities of instruction

Program Development: Develop and implements various training modalities that support faculty and staff needs; Works collaboratively with College related committees such as eLearning taskforce to assess online learning and course development.

Professional Development: In consultation with the CTL director, provides programming and support for fulltime and adjunct faculty at all college locations; provides consultation on teaching issues from a brief question to multiple individual meetings with faculty; organizes faculty in-service activities; develops professional development opportunities for all employees that includes core competencies covering basic information including ethics, diversity, communication, use of technology, etc.; collaborates with the Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction to provide appropriate district programs and activities for SMCC employees; works collaboratively with the college's Faculty Developers; identifies and promotes appropriate professional development opportunities both locally and nationally.

Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree in Instructional Technology or related field, or a master's in any teaching field with 24 upper division and/or graduate semester hours in the teaching field, or a master's in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field. EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire

Desired Qualifications

A. Doctoral degree in instructional design, instructional technology, educatoinal media or related field
B. Three (3) or more years of experience in instructional design
C. Three (3) or more years of experience in a leadership role in higher education
D. Three (3) or more years of experience in using innovative instructional technologies, learning management systems that
include both administrative responsibilities and user interface support
E. Experience developing curriculum and course materials in a higher education setting
F. One (1) or more years of experience with faculty and staff development initiatives or programs at the program, department
and college level.
G. Two (2) years experience teaching in an online modality in higher education

Special Working Conditions

May be required to teach morning, day, afternoon, evening and/or weekend classes at multiple sites. May be required to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds such as class equipment. Must attend all department meetings, committee assignments, and other college-wide activities.
