• Job Summary
Instructs, supervises, advises, and evaluates students from diverse college and high school populations in automotive classroom and lab settings that include, but not limited to, courses in automotive maintenance, engine repair, suspension & steering, manual drive train & axles, electrical/electronics, HVAC, automatic transmission, engine performance and brakes. Research, develop, and implement automotive curricula changes and course schedules. Actively participate in developing, updating and implementing procedures for sharing learning resources. Work with local and statewide Ford Dealerships and local high schools for recruitment and internships.
Essential Functions
• Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students in a classroom and/or lab setting
• Develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials
• Evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records
• Prepares and grades exams
• Develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in the field and to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and/or workshops
• Maintains office hours to assist and advise students
• Engages in the academic life of the college by participating in District wide and campus committees
Minimum Qualifications
• A master's degree in the teaching field, OR
• A master's in any teaching field with 24 graduate semester hours in the teaching field, OR
• A bachelor's degree plus 3 years work experience in the field to be taught, OR
• An associate's degree or 64 semester hours and 5 years work experience in the field to be taught, or 5 years work experience in the field to be taught, AND
• EDU 250- Teaching and Learning in the Community College -- or equivalent must be completed within two years of the date of hire.
Desired Qualifications
A. ASE Master Certification with advanced level 1 in Engine Performance (L1) and (G1) Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR)
B. Recent automotive teaching and curriculum experience at the community college or high school level.
C. Experience working in educational environments, including non-traditional settings that require professionalism, flexibility, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
D. Recent (within the last 4 years) update training history with Ford Motor Company or another automotive manufacturer.
E. Minimum Associates Degree in Automotive or related areas; Industrial Management, Engineering, Welding, Diesel Technology, Aircraft Maintenance.
Special Working Conditions
• MCCCD does not sponsor any type of work visas
• Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving:
• Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
• May required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
• May require numerous evenings or weekends
• May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
• May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
