Poste proposé : Environmental Surveillance Landscape, InternshipDescription of internship project:PATH received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to create a catalog of existing environmental surveillance (ES) activities in Africa to leverage existing capacity as part of the expansion of the polio ES network. The catalog will be used by decision-makers when proactively identifying locations for new sites in priority areas, and during a response if areas in need of ES are urgently required following the identification of an acute flaccid paralysis case.Though not the primary goal, this catalog will also help to better understand existing laboratory capacity for ES analyses. The catalog will be created by surveying the scientific literature, web-based material, national programs, and donors’ investments to catalog ES sites.Benefit to Intern:The intern will:The intern will develop skills in literature review and data collection that can be used in their studies/ thesis.The intern will network with professionals, gain valuable work experience, and explore a career path in environmental surveillance/research.Experience building for project management (Project start up, coordination, close out)Remote working, report writing, data management, Communication, Leadership and Networking skills.The intern will receive a modest stipend. Internship’s goals and learning objectives: To build capacity of masters’ students to conduct research including review of literature and data collection.To learn how to work with teams and independently.To expose students to the environmental surveillance networkTo strengthen projects management skills Proposed activities: Assist in Reviewing selected journal articles.Support in extracting data from the selected journal articlesSupport the technical consultant to engage national and regional stakeholders and collect data.Support Technical consultant to compile the project report.On-boarding to the projectAttend at least 2 project coordination meetings a month (as observers)Attend at least 4 mentorship meetings. Profil recherché pour le poste : Environmental Surveillance Landscape, Internship Learning outcomes (how the Intern’s performance will be evaluated): Performance will be evaluated through feedback from the supervisors based on workplan tasks assigned and done. Required skills and experience: The applicant should preferably be a final year master’s student of a health-related course like public health, environmental health science, medical microbiology, nursing etc.Experience in reviewing literature and collecting data using interviews and questionnaires.Prior experience with mobile data collection tools like KoboCollect, CommCare, or ODK. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English plus working knowledge of French.Proven effectiveness working in a team-based environment, but also capable of working independently.Ability and willingness to travel domestically up to approximately 30% of the time.Must have legal authorization to work in the country they will be based.
