Position Summary:
Participate and assist in planning and conducting sequencing activities or techniques/ methods within R&D Microbiology in full compliance with current quality and safety standards
Provide assistance and technical support for activities to improve or support existing products, methods or techniques.
Primary Duties:
• Handling of microbiological cultures, including bacteria, yeasts, moulds and mycobacteria species using appropriate safety precautions.
• Perform DNA/RNA extractions from bacterial samples
• Process samples utilizing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) as well as other assay platforms.
• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
• Maintain internal documentation for all steps of the processes as outlined in SOPs
• Contribute to ongoing process improvement efforts
• Coordinate work assignments and be able to prioritize independently
• Participate in a team approach to workflow management of the lab
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
• Communicates results or problems to supervisor or senior staff members.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in life sciences/ Biology/ Molecular Biology/ Biochemistry or related field.
• 2+ years of experience with PCR and Nucleic acid extraction, experience with NGS a plus
• Ability to acquire and perform new laboratory techniques
• Good communication skills in verbal and written English
• Good computer skills
• Good organizational skills
