Hourly Paid Teachers, Senegal

Role Purpose

We are looking for motivated professionals to join our team of teachers working in Dakar to support British Council’s global English strategy through the implementation and management of activity plans in support of Senegal Teaching Centre strategy to meet income and impact targets and enhance the British Council’s reputation in Senegal for English language teaching expertise.

The post holder will deliver quality teaching and ensure the effective learning of English, support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission, ensure continuous professional development and strict compliance with Safeguarding, EDI, and H&S policies. You will build and maintain relationships with learners and parents which reflect British

Council values, and UK/regional and local policy and practice, goals, and priorities. The successful candidate will demonstrate high levels of professionalism and a sound ability to motivate learners to be successful. The post holder must show strong levels of competence in the required teaching standards and behaviours and maintain a co-operative relationship with the wider teaching team, centre personnel, Exams, Marketing and Customer Service, and all customers, including parents and partners.

There are challenges of course. English language resources are not always readily available outside of the class and student language and learning skills will often need additional attention and support from the teacher. Our students almost universally respond well to all the best teaching skills you bring to bear as they value quality and professionalism.

Role Specific Knowledge & Experience
• Post CELTA experience in teaching adults and young learners, and willingness to acquire experience of all ages and course types, under supervision
• Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL or equivalent
• High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent

Desirable requirements
• Recognised diploma in EFL i.e. Cambridge DELTA
• Additional specialist qualifications such as YL Extension to CELTA, or IELTS examiner status

Experience in teaching relevant age groups specific to the centre:
• Adults General English (800+ hours)
• Young learners aged 8 to 10 (100+ hours)
• Young learners aged 11 to 13 (100+ hours)
• Young learners aged 14 to 17 (100+ hours)
• Exam preparation
• IELTS experience
• Business English and teaching corporate clients
