THE UNIVERSITY: California State University, East Bay (CSUEB), one of the 23 California State Universities, is a comprehensive university serving the San Francisco Bay Area/Silicon Valley. It is known for award-winning programs, expert instruction, its diverse student body, and a choice of more than 100 career-focused fields of study. With an enrollment of approximately 12,500 students and 900 faculty, the University offers bachelor’s degrees in 49 fields, minors in 52 fields, master’s degrees in 34 fields, 16 credentials programs, 18 certificate options, and 1 doctoral degree program. THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Teacher Education at CSU East Bay is seeking a Department Chair who embodies compassion, empathy, strong leadership, and who has demonstrated a commitment to social justice. Located in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, the Department partners with over 45 school districts in one of the most diverse regions in the state in addition to serving candidates across California in the elementary and secondary face to face and some secondary programs. The Department is committed to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. During these dynamic and disruptive times, the department is focused on improving school practices for all students and educating teachers who can model these practices in their own classrooms. This is an opportunity for leading a vibrant department into the future and to collaborate with a faculty that consistently strives for program innovation, participates in educational reform initiatives, promotes research across a variety of disciplines, and engages with organizations across the state and nation.

The Department currently offers multiple and single subject credentials and four master’s degrees in Reading & Literacy, Educational Technology, Early Childhood Education, and Curriculum & Instruction. CSUEB campus-based Science and Math credential cohorts are consistently robust. It hasthe oldest and largest Dance and Theatre credential programs in its online cohorts. These programs are

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The candidate must possess the ability to lead the department and fulfill all duties of chairs (scheduling, budgeting, faculty evaluation, etc.) Candidate is expected to teach courses in the multiple subject, single subject, and/or masters programs. Candidate is expected to lead accreditation, liaise with the college, university, and system-wide community, and work with district partners and community at large. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord, and Online campuses.

In addition to teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work, and are expected to assume campus-wide committee responsibilities. RANK AND SALARY: Position is open rank, applicants who are currently tenured may receive tenure at CSUEB if requirements are met. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization.

The salary schedule information for the Department Chair - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

Department Chair AY ( Range 3 ) - $5,405 - $12,952

Department Chair AY ( Range 4 ) - $6,190 - $14,215

Department Chair AY ( Range 5 ) - $7,794 - $14,893

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

Required qualifications are:
• Expertise/terminal degree/teaching experience in content discipline related to teacher education, early childhood education, urban education, and/or educational foundations.
• Skills/experience/training in JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion). Commitment to and experience in teaching a highly diverse student population included varied socio-economic status, language, race, ethnicity, religion, (dis)ability, sexual orientation, and gender identity, etc.
• Proven collaborative leadership under challenging situations, ability to bring productive consensus
• Record of successful research
• Record of successful college/university teaching
• Record of successful teaching in pk-12 classroom
• Knowledge of accreditation processes

Preferred:
• Knowledge of California educational policies and procedures
• Record of successful student recruitment including from historically underrepresented groups
• Expertise in graduate research, curriculum and instruction
• Experience in outreach and building partnerships with pk-14 institutions, undergraduate departments, and community organizations
• Ability to contribute to a positive working environment.
• Experience in budgeting
• Successful teaching experience at graduate level
• Knowledge of Teacher Performance Assessments (TPAs)
