PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $4,170.00/month to $5,200.00/month.

About the Position

The STEM Career Awareness and Preparation (CAP) Program Coordinator will develop and lead activities and collaborative projects to expose and prepare Cal State East Bay students to pathways that lead to careers with STEM Companies. This position will specifically focus on programming and partnerships to promote improved diversity in STEM fields. Many students in STEM focused majors are engaged in coursework and other activities that prepare them for rewarding careers in STEM, but need guidance to identify specific career goals and pathways to achieve these goals. The CAP Program Coordinator will collaborate with faculty and administrators at the university, STEM companies, and others to build and sustain programs that support students in developing a broad understanding of possible careers in STEM through workshops, site visits, career panels, internships, and other related activities. The CAP Program Coordinator will also collaborate to develop and facilitate activities that support students in developing the written and oral communications skills and collateral necessary to promote themselves for internship and employment opportunities. Finally, the CAP Program Coordinator will coordinate communication to promote the wide array of career-themed activities already available on the Cal State East Bay campus and increase student participation.

Responsibilities

CAP Program Leadership and Development: As a primary responsibility, the CAP Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the CAP Program. The Coordinator will ensure timely completion of all CAP program components including career exploration and preparation activities, data collection and management, and communication to students, faculty, staff, and business partners.

Some specific examples in this area include but are not limited to:
• Develop, expand, and maintain professional communication with STEM business representatives to build partnerships and recruit participation in career exploration activities.
• Expand and develop programs for Cal State East Bay students to explore and prepare for careers in STEM industries, including:
• In partnership with faculty and staff, develop and facilitate activities such as site visits, career panels, professional talks, internships, etc., to provide opportunities for students to learn about different careers and career pathways.
• Develop and facilitate professional communication workshops for students to create and improve resumes and cover letters, to practice interview skills, and other related topics with the overall goal of preparing them to successfully apply for internships and employment.
• Coordinate and develop a communication strategy and collateral to inform students, faculty, staff, and business partners about career awareness and preparation activities in which they can participate.
• Maintain a database of participating students and partner companies.
• Manage the CAP Website.
• Create marketing materials for CAP workshops, events, and programs.
• Collaborates with other groups on campus include AACE, Alumni Relations, College of Science, and MESA U to co-promote and support career exploration activities.
• Work with faculty and administration to apply for grants to support CAP activities and CAP participants.

InSTEM Scholars Coach: Serve as Coach to a 15-member cohort of inSTEM Scholars. Lead inSTEM cohort through a series of education- and career-oriented modules designed to equip Scholars with the skills and confidence necessary to break down the systemic barriers to success in STEM.

Some specific examples in this area include but are not limited to:
• Coordinate recruitment of inSTEM Scholars.
• Plan and facilitate bi-monthly meetings to deliver the inSTEM curriculum.
• Coordinate with the NSTMF team, outside partners and campus partners on program delivery and data collection.
• Reserve rooms, order catering and supplies for inSTEM meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires general knowledge and skills in the STEM and Career Education with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Required Qualifications
• Demonstrated ability to organize and facilitate complex events and programs.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Experience working with college age youth.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge
• Experience developing and implementing programming for students to explore careers and develop career plans.
• Experience working with STEM professionals to design and implement programming for college students to gain pre-employment work experience.
• Two years of increasingly responsible program leadership.

Condition(s) of Employment

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan, as appropriate), that may include, but is not limited to: criminal records check, verification of academic credentials, licenses, certificates, credit history, professional references and/or verification of work history is required for employment. Cal State East Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Unsatisfactory results may also affect the continued employment of current Cal State East Bay employees who were conditionally offered the position.

All background checks are conducted through the university's third party vendor, Accurate. LiveScan is conducted through the University Police Department.
