JOB DESCRIPTION

The Opportunity

Save the Children International is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the positions of Program Facilitator Basic education. The Program Facilitator will provide leadership in district-level planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of basic education activities with a focus on Inclusive Education, Safe Schools, and Literacy and Numeracy in collaboration with district level implementing partners from the targeted districts. He/she will support all project capacity building interventions to strengthen the capacity of teachers, community volunteers and other stakeholders at district level to implement various education related activities. The Program Facilitator is expected to have strong skills in Inclusive Education, Safe Schools, Literacy and Numeracy, Child Protection, Gender, Advocacy, Community mobilization, Child Participation and Adult Training Facilitation.

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Quality Learning, the Program Facilitator- Basic Education is responsible for providing a facilitation and the implementation and monitoring of literacy and numeracy component of SCREP programme under Issue 1. She/he co-leads leads at district level, collaboration with government departments and SCREP implementing partners

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Project planning and Implementation.
• Plan and implement the SCREP Issue One activities in close coordination with the Issue One Technical Specialists (Inclusive Education, and Literacy and Numeracy Technical Specialists) district government partners (DEM, DSWO etc) and the SCREP Program implementing partners
• Provide technical support to the district partners on implementation of SCREP Issue One activities with a particular focus on Inclusive Education, Safe Schools and Literacy and Numeracy.
• Wok in close collaboration with the SCREP Program Manager and district Implementing partners in quality work planning processes, technical reporting and sharing of lessons and best practices
• Assist in planning, coordination and facilitation of Inclusive Education, Safe Schools and Literacy and Numeracy trainings.
• Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to child protection, health and safety, security, equal opportunities and other relevant policies

Programme Monitoring and Reporting
• In close collaboration with the MEAL Manager and Data Systems Coordinator, coordinate accurate data collection and monitoring of activities
• Conduct periodic field visits to SCREP partners to monitor the technical quality of program interventions
• Prepare high quality programme reports in collaboration with implementing partners as per SCI and donor requirements.

Representation, Networking and Advocacy
• Represent the SCREP program in relevant district level stakeholders for a
• Work closely with other SCREP programme Issues and SCI projects to ensure programme integration and sharing of learning.
• Coordinate with relevant stakeholders and duty bearers for a smooth implementation of the Safe Schools, Literacy and Numeracy and Inclusive Education program activities (Ministries, UN bodies, INGOs, local NGOs etc.).

In order to be successful you will bring/have:
• BEd, BSc in Social Sciences , Development Studies
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in implementing basic education interventions with a special focus on Inclusive Education, Safe Schools, and Literacy and Numeracy
• Experience in project management.
• Demonstrated experience in a technical role in basic education and in particular, Inclusive Education, Safe Schools, and Literacy and Numeracy is desirable
• Strong knowledge of Education and Child Protection policies and practice in Malawi and global
• Demonstrated experience of working with complex teams in different geographic locations
• Demonstrated experience of working in fast-moving and fluid professional environments with multiple competing deadlines and tasks
• Excellent communication skills in Chichewa and English, both oral and written
• Computer literacy in Microsoft software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Express.
• Capacity to train, coach and mentor project staff as well as partners.

Desirable:
• A commitment to children’s rights and an ability to provide leadership in this area.
• Experience in managing significant grants, preferably child rights related ones.
• Experience of working effectively with partner organizations.
• Demonstrable competence in training, monitoring and evaluation, policy review and formulation, proposal and report writing.
• Experience of community participation, ownership and empowerment.
• Experience in remote monitoring and evaluation.
• High level of integrity.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
