My Client a Clothing Retailer in CapeTown has an exciting new vacancy for a Area Manager.
The requirements for the area manager are:
• Minimum of a Matric qualification
• At least 7 years' experience in a Senior Management/ retail environment with a proven
track record
• Management experience in the apparel sector
• Must be computer literate
• Driver's licence essential
• In depth knowledge of retail policies and procedures
• Good planning and organisational skills
• Able to work weekends
• Key Performance Areas (KPA's)
• To pro - actively contribute to the formulation and direction of the retail strategy and implement projects and
• trials for the area
• To support the management of customer service activities and staff competence so as to optimise and
• sustain sales performance and customer satisfaction
• To effectively manage the profit and loss statement within the allocated budget, seeking ways to reduce
• expenditure not to the detriment of the business, to effect a profitable performance for the area
• To manage salary and wage expenditure in line with area sales performance and affirmative action plans
• To ensure that all stores adhere to compliance requirements in all areas of operational activity, company
• policies and procedures
• To clearly and concisely communicate business and area objectives to managers so that they remain well
• informed of business activity and of their required contribution to targets
• To achieve stock control targets in line with company guidelines to prevent financial loss by determining the
• Stock losses via a stocktake in every branch at least every 4 months
• To liaise with the buying and merchandising units regarding the supply of stock in the area to maximise
• stock and sales potential
• To actively manager merchandise on a weekly basis to ensure stores have enough, and the correct product,
• to ensure the achievement of their sales budgets
• To ensure that stores comply with all Health and Safety legislation as well as all labour legislation
• To ensure that all company property issued to him/ her is well looked after and only used for company
• purposes with the exception of private use authorised in writing by the group operations manager
• To identify under performing stores and develop a business plan to address and manage issues effectively
• To achieve successful mystery shopping results through the development and training of managers
• To collate and provide constructive feedback on visual merchandising standards to the business
• To ensure that the visual presentation of all stores complies with the company standards and represents
• the brand image
• To ensure disciplined staff by implementing companies disciplinary process when required
• To support the delivery of all marketing campaigns and provide constructive feedback on all campaigns
• To develop an effective network of communication across the area to ensure shared knowledge and
• understanding of business activity
• To encourage managers to seek and continuously develop knowledge of competitor activity and local
• market conditions, with the purpose of you making appropriate and innovative recommendations to drive
• the business forward
• To encourage managers to identify trends and make suggestions to improve and enhance product
• performance to drive brand achievement
• To recruit competent, motivated staff with the correct cognitive abilities required of the work role, and
• ensure the full implementation of induction programmes and monitor ongoing performance needs
• To effectively manage the performance and development of store managers to drive and maximise the
• sales performance throughout the area
• To plan for the succession in the area through the identification of individuals with potential for development
• and growth
• To create a positive environment that results in stable retention and a reduction of labour turnover
• To identify, prioritise and pursue store acquisition, relocation and disposal opportunities in liaison with
• the group operations manager
• To co-ordinate and ensure the smooth and timeous opening of new stores in the area, complying with all
• aspects related to the brand
• To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the group operations manager

• To achieve area sales targets as directed by the group operations manager
• To achieve stock loss targets as directed by the group operations manager
• To achieve all compliance requirements with regards to security and cash for the area
• To achieve/ over-achieve on budgeted profit
• Key skills, knowledge and experience
• Ability to manage and develop a positive, competent and productive management team
• Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to drive and motivate performance through effective coaching
• skills and a hands-on approach
• Demonstrable and strong business acumen
• Highly organised with the ability to adapt quickly to strategic change
• Ability to work in a team and fulfil the role of middle management within the company
• Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the company and command respect across all levels
• Ability to train and develop the skill and knowledge of direct reports
• Previous multi-site area/ retail management experience
• Self-motivating and results driven
• Holds a clean legal driving licence for a motor car and is able to stay overnight as and when required
