Our client in the Health Industry based in St Francis Bay is currently looking to employ a Head Addiction Counsellor.

Requirements:
• Associate degree in chemical dependency counselling, or a bachelor's degree with coursework in chemical dependency, and/or master’s degree in counselling preferred, and/or IC and RC International Certification.
• Previous experience (minimum of 3 years) with the treatment of substance abuse disorders.
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems like would be advantageous.
• Familiarity with ASAM admission or assessment criteria preferable.
• Experience with co-occurring health and mental health problems.
• Application of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services’ (SANCA) best practice indicators.
• In-depth knowledge of drug and alcohol testing to monitor treatment plans and medical instructions.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate nature.

Responsibilities:
• Provide mental health and addiction counselling and support to individuals and families who are clients.
• Answer phone calls and inquiries concerning available programs and services.
• Managing all aspects of a case from date of entry to date of discharge.
• Evaluating patients' physical and mental behaviours.
• Developing appropriate treatment and recovery plans.
• Facilitating individual and group therapy sessions.
• Monitoring patients over time to access treatment progress.
• Collaborating with psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and other members of the muti-disciplinary team.
• Identifying behaviours that interfere with treatment and recovery.
• Assisting primary caregivers to manage SUD-related behaviour.
• Provide mental health counselling regarding the cause, symptoms and prevention strategies of SUD.
• Provide counselling regarding the use and effects of alcohol and drugs.
• Prepare needs and risk assessments.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of crisis management and the impact of trauma on mental health and addiction issues.
• Accept and make referrals to outside agencies.
• Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, conversations, and referrals.
• Utilize the Electronic Management Record system to document all client encounters in a timely manner.
• Coordinate and facilitate educational workshops on mental health and SUD related topics.
• Attend and sit on community and organizational committees.
• Assist individuals to identify their need for treatment programs.
• Assist clients to meet all admission requirements.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment program.
• Complete Admission and Discharge Criteria and Assessment Tools
• (ADAT/ASAM).
• Arrange transportation for clients to and from treatment centre.
• Prepare and facilitate mental health and SUD programs.
• Develop and facilitate SUD-related group counselling programs, i.e.
• Structured Relapse Prevention and/or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy etc.
• including all materials and delivery methods.
• Conduct a Needs Assessment/SWOT Analysis for proposed programs.
• Prepare program evaluations and analyse results.
