Introduction
Requirements:
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse Midwife
• Qualification in Advanced Midwifery will be beneficial
• 2-3 years management or supervisory experience in Maternity Ward will be advantageous
• Clinical knowledge of the Maternity Ward essential
• Advanced Computer Literacy
• Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation
• Flexible in working hours / shifts
The main purpose of this position:
The role of a Senior Professional Nurse is to function as a competent clinical practitioner within their designated clinical area and to deliver direct patient care whilst co-ordinating and overseeing the nursing/theatre practice.
To deputise for the Theatre manager in his / her absence, driving forward
evidence-based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within their clinical area.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities
• In conjunction with the Unit manager be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of theatre teams, effectively motivating, and directing staff to ensure that time and resources are managed through effective teamwork
• To deputise for the Unit manager when necessary
• To assist the Unit Manager in the management of staff within their Unit including specific induction, recruitment and selection, training, performance management, sickness / absence and appraisals
• Ensure that continuous training takes place in the Maternity Ward
