Introduction

Background

The technical team of Operations consists of a Site Engineer and a Performance Engineer who report to a Technical Manager. The technical team is responsible for:
• Monitoring the asset technical performance
• Investigation of deficiencies
• Identification of technical risks and opportunities
• Interaction with the operating company, Plant Ops and review of reporting
• Leading where required and participating in root cause analyses
• Working with Plant Ops to develop and implement solutions
• Engineering change management
• Providing technical inputs to commercial and finance functions when required
• Development and implementation of optimization special projects at the Site as well as providing engineering support to the socio-economic development initiatives not located at the Plant
• Reporting to the Board of Directors, Shareholders, Lenders and other parties as required
• Providing inputs and interfacing with the environmental consultants
• Managing technical permits and licenses such as the Grid code compliance
• Support in managing insurance and warranty claims
• Providing technical arguments to the legal function as and when required

Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of the Job

The Site Engineer will participate in all the technical team activities listed above, but with specific focus on the following:
• Project and interface management for special projects including construction monitoring up to commissioning and hand over. Current special projects include, but are not limited to:
• Solar PV installation for auxiliary power supply
• Borehole project for water security
• Socio-economic development initiatives such as building toilet facilities at under- privileged schools
• Concept design of modifications and special projects including techno-economic evaluation of options
• Liaison with the external water supplier to the plant
• Liaison with Plant Ops and provision of support for insurance claims and warranty claims
• Review and monitoring the annual outage plan
• Support in managing Plant Ops commitments to ESKOM, O&M, Environmental and other agreements
• Follow up of the O&M Obligations and review reporting and documentation
• Perform technical investigation and root cause analysis
• Perform visual inspections and report back
• Provide input to reporting including review of work by others
• Drafting scopes of work including service level agreements and other documents for the execution of work to fulfil the KSP objectives

By so doing, the Site Engineer will protect the Owner’s interests and ensure sustainability in respect of contractual commitments, ethics rules, corporate policies, and environmental and societal responsibility.

Reporting

The Site Engineer will report to the Technical Manager of the Company and will also closely interact with

the Company’s CEO and the O&M Company.

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)

The Site Engineer will act and promote a positive Health and Safety culture at the site.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications
• Degree or Master’s in Electrical Engineering
• ECSA registered Professional Engineer
• Project management qualification would be advantageous

Experience
• Project experience in solar PV utility scale
• Power plant operations (Preferable experience in thermal plants such as OCGT, CCGT, coal, solar CSP)

Specific Knowledge / skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication, planning, negotiation, coordination skills.
• Work in a multicultural environment and multidisciplinary teams.
• Comfortable working across engineering disciplines – conversant in Mechanical, Civil, Control and Instrumentation and Process Engineering.
• Resolve complex technical/ commercial issues.
• Work with IT systems like the MS Office, Document management software, etc...
• English language, Afrikaans would be advantageous.
