The General Manager will be based in a small agricultural town in the Western Cape and report and work closely with the Group Agri Director to build this division into an industry leading business unit through:
• Focus on commercial viability and driving the operating efficiency
• Progressing the data driven crop forecasting model and managing the sustainability of the industry through setting annual purchase price.
• Building an efficient and effective supply and purchasing function.
• Growing effective long-term partnerships with producers and progressing the development of an industry accepted farmer costing model.
• Building a strong team of service orientated people.
• Management, improvement, and expansion of primary processing (production management) and storage facilities.
• Integration of grading and quality laboratories at the processing and storage facilities.
• Improving and deploying tight control systems on existing processes.
• Managing development, innovation, and deployment of business systems upstream to producer level.
• Monitoring and driving production efficiencies and yields at both tea making and producer level.
• Working with the Group Agri Director to deploy relevant production information to the farmer base.
• Managing the Agri team, including sourcing, production, refining and storage.
• Advancing agricultural and tea making technology processes: genetics, fermentation, and information systems.
• Driving the groups social and sustainability objectives.
About the right person
• Age 27 to 35.
• Languages: Afrikaans (home language…must be able to speak and write), English.
• Exceptional leadership with strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
• Energetic self-starter with a pragmatic approach to problem solving and implementation.
• Constructive disruptor and economic vision.
• Interest in agriculture.
• Qualifications: tertiary education in Commerce, Agri Econ or BSc, Engineering or production.
• Has had relevant experience in a mature, systems driven Agri-Processing operation.
• Worked with advanced business information/ business intelligence and ERP systems.
• Attention to detail and tidy minded.
• Team player.
