Job Summary

This position is responsible for developing, scheduling, and carrying out marketing plans for all books published by Northwestern University Press in coordination with the department’s sales and publicity activities and with the primary goal of selling books. Main areas of leadership and responsibility: exhibits, events, catalogs, collateral materials, review copies, AQ processing, copy writing, and report writing.

Please note : Some travel and weekend work required.

Specific Responsibilities
• Functions as Exhibits Manager, creating an annual events roster and budget in coordination with the acquisitions department. Plans and supports Press exhibits at scholarly meetings, trade book sales, and author events. Attends and manages most local trade events where sales occur.
• Writes, produces, and distributes seasonal book data by way of two printed catalogs and Edelweiss.
• Conceives, designs, produces, and distributes printed and digital ARCs, flyers, and other promotional materials. Working with colleagues in the marketing department, helps to plan and coordinate website sales.
• Creates and tracks written marketing plans for trade and scholarly books.
• Creates reviewers lists and distributes review copies in consultation with author AQ and within press guidelines for the use of comps.
• Creates annual advertising plans and budgets. In collaboration with marketing colleagues, plans ads to support sales and publicity. Designs and typesets ad mechanicals.
• Drafts book jack copy.
• Identifies blurbs for trade books. Harvests pull-quotes from book reviews for insertion into book metadata.

Miscellaneous
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
• Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree
• Experience in sales and marketing, preferably at a university press
• Experience in website maintenance, databases, and digital asset management

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in a university press marketing department
• Graduate degree
• Experience working with Drupal, InDesign, Acrobat, and the Mac operating
