Main Purpose:

The Depot Manager is responsible for leading a team and driving “best in class” performance to ensure safe, efficient, and cost effective Depot and Transport operations that are in compliance with Puma Energy practice and standards

Health Safety and Environment

Demonstrates HSE leadership, fully supports HSE as a personal value and undertakes all necessary steps to ensure that Depot and Transport team assimilates these values, change behaviours and comply with standards. Adhere to process safety practices and procedures (as documented) so that incidents may be prevented and/or mitigated via the identification, assessment and understanding of both minor and major hazards in terms of plant, process & people. To systematically manage and provide justifiable assurance that the Depot installations are in compliance with applicable SAPS and legal requirements. Ensures that the Depot has up to date and tested Emergency Response plans.

Depot and Transport Operational Performance

Instrumental in setting and obtaining approval for Depot and Transport operational targets (budget) that include HSSE, Customer, Financial, Transport Efficiency and People measures, as well as Operating Standards, that harmonize with overall company objectives and strategies; Maximises profitability, performance and operational targets to meet agreed financial and business objectives. Continuously seeks improvements to create competitive advantage in terms of customer service, safety, security, asset utilization and costs within agreed budgets.. Reviews, analyses and implements methods, systems and practices to improve Depot and Transport operating efficiency and reduce costs ensuring at all times the company’s reputation and license to operate is maintained by compliance with the relevant legislation and safety requirements. Focuses on the contractor’s transport resources on customer service by ensuring that the bulk vehicles are dispatched according to the order taking schedule; that the next day’s (daily) schedule is checked and signed off to ensure that it can be realistically executed and to ensure that constraints that may occur in terms of gantry capacity, bulk fuel availability, vehicle breakdowns and BVO (bulk vehicle operator) are pro-actively addressed. Maintains full construction and operational records for the site e.g. drawings, maintenance details, records of modifications or excursions of plant outside of design operating conditions.

Business Controls

Maintains strict quality and quantity controls on stocks and deliveries including losses/gains/re-grades and continually monitors the stock ownership position. Ensures controls are in place to make sure financial and operational standards and costs are being met by all users of the facility, e.g. Supply function and other oil companies.

People Management

Leads, motivates and coaches the Depot and Transport teams to deliver outstanding performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) on SAPS, Financial, Customer and People Measures and Operating Standards. Sets Staff performance contracts, conducts bi-annual reviews and implements measures to optimise performance. Creates an enabling environment that promotes and recognises individual and team efforts and develops the skills and capabilities of the team. Ensures that all staff have clear accountabilities particularly in respect to SAPS. Establishes a culture of operational excellence and ensures full implementation of company policies and procedures to achieve “best in class” operations performance. .

Stakeholder Relationship

Spends a considerable amount of time building and maintaining relationships with the host Depot(s) and with other oil companies regarding product supply and demand as required. Selects, develops and manages relationships with contractors and third party suppliers to ensure effective working practices and performance. Works closely with other areas of Puma Energy, understanding implications of broad decisions, and successfully implements programmes and initiatives to achieve operational excellence.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
• Degree in Logistics, Transport Economics, or a related technical/business field is advantageous.

Experience:
• 5 years of logistics or operational experience, 3 of which should have been spent at management level.
• Extensive knowledge of Depot operations procedures, supply and logistics and knowledge of other Operating Performance Unit (OPU) strategies and plans, particularly markets.
• Ability to work with diverse teams including senior management and third party negotiations

Skills:
• Valid driver’s license or international equivalent is primary
• The Depot Manager must be knowledgeable in HSE legislated standards
• Setswana and English proficiency is primary
