Legal Expert, Lesotho
ACDI/VOCA is seeking a Legal Expert for an anticipated program in Lesotho funded by Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
The Legal Expert will identify creative legal solutions to effectively lead program operations. The program is anticipated to start in 2023 and this position is based in Lesotho.
Responsibilities
• Provide legal and strategic advice on the development and interpretation of policies, procedures and products
• Work collaboratively with attorneys from other multilateral development institutions to address a broad variety of complex legal issues
• Keep abreast of trends in legal issues across Lesotho, making recommendations for newly standardized approaches and updated practices accordingly
• Promote knowledge sharing and creative products and services with relevant stakeholders
• Support the drafting and regular updating of financing documentation
• Deliver trainings on operational matters
• Support the landholders in structuring agreements as lessors, individual smallholders, or associations of farmers on use of their land
Qualifications
• Law degree and experience with co-operative law required.• Minimum 8 years of experience conducting legal analysis in an international context.• Experience working in Lesotho preferred.• Proven ability to collaborate successfully with host-country government officials, international donors, non-government organizations, financial institutions, and agriculture and private sector stakeholders.• Excellent analytical and communication skills.• Fluency in English required.
