Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for ensuring the functionality of instruments and scientific equipment, keeping detailed and accurate records of research findings, and setting up experiments under the direction of senior scientists. The technician’s primary activities will be focused on formulation and testing of water-based coatings
Duties
· Maintain a clean, safe laboratory environment.
· Prepare chemical solutions for products and processes following standardized formulas.
· Perform laboratory tests as directed to produce reliable and precise data.
· Calibrate and sterilize instruments and equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s labeling and in-house procedures; troubleshoot problems with instruments and equipment.
· Document and report experiment results by recording data and preparing charts and graphs.
· Keep track of chemical inventory and lab supplies.
· Master and follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
· Contribute to the preparation and revision of technical documents, standard operating procedures, and safety protocols.
· Materials handling is an essential part of this position. The employee occasionally is required to perform tasks like move, lift, and pour from a 5-gallon pail; move, lift, and pour from a 50-lb bag of sand or cement; use a hand truck, cart, pail tipper, or other equipment to move materials.
Qualifications
· Associate's or bachelor's degree in chemistry or sciences major is preferred. At minimum, a high school diploma or GED with the completion of at least one college-level chemistry or physical science class.
· High regard for personal safety and the safety of others.
· High standards for data integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
· Previous experience with laboratory equipment is helpful, including in a high school or college environment.
· Good time management skills.
· Strong oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to learn new testing methods and instrument use.
