Hiring Range: $90,300 - $103,153

Pay Band: 5

Job Duties

$7,500 Sign-On Bonus or $10,000 Student Loan Repayment

This position is for night shift.

VADOC Registered Nurse Supervisors provide quality health care to offenders and employees during emergency events.

Assist with overseeing the work of LPN’s and other medical staff.

Directs a staff of Corrections Nurse Technicians, Registered Nurses, and support services in coordination with the physician, dentist, psychologist, and security staff to ensure that offenders are provided appropriate medical care.

Serves as relief for the Health Authority for the site.

Provides skilled nursing care to offenders.

Assesses offenders’ health problems and needs, prepares and administers prescribed medications, initiates emergency interventions, first aid measures, and assists physician.

Develops and implements medical/nursing guidelines and maintains medical records.

Provides training as necessary to staff and education to offenders about healthy lifestyles.

Triages sick call request and ensures all offenders are seen within 72 hours of receipt.

Provide total health care to offenders (routine, chronic and emergency care), maintaining continuity of care from admission to discharge.

Safe medication administration following DOC policy.

Provide employee health services in accordance with policy.

ACA standards of care, Health Services guidelines and policies, Operational policies and procedures are followed.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia RN license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not licensed, the NCLEX-RN exam must be scheduled at the time of application)

Knowledgeable in general nursing.

Possess critical thinking and judgment skills.

Ability to perform full physical assessments

Working knowledge of withdrawal symptoms and medication-assisted treatment

Working knowledge of medication management and pharmacological knowledge

Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of principles and practices of professional nursing

Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment

Supervisory experience

Experience working with mental health patients
